Description
July 5, 1977
A tremendous scientific discovery has been made in a remote area of the Himalayas. A gigantic ape, some 40 feet tall, has been taken to a stadium in Hong Kong by entrepreneur Lu Tien, who intends to show off the creature's incredible strength to the crowds. The true species of the ape is unknown, but Lu Tien calls it the "Mighty Peking Man", after local legends about the creature. According to Johnny Feng, the treasure hunter who found the ape, the creature is named "Utam". Utam even has a sort of adopted human "daughter" named Samantha, who met Utam as a child after her plane went down in the mountains. She was raised by the immense ape, and lived with him in a remote Himalayan valley for years. I have been invited to Hong Kong with several other kaijuologists to study Utam. Lu Tien claims Utam was responsible for the complete destruction of a small village in northern India in 1962, and the footprints of a massive ape do seem to match with Utam's, but this is somewhat surprising, given Utam's fairly placid demeanor. Even in his show in the arena, he seems to enjoy his contests of strength against various construction vehicles, seeing the whole thing as play. He seems far more laid-back than Kong ever was.

Utam, sadly, is dead. The "Mighty Peking Man" was slain after he flew into a rage in the arena for reasons unknown, and broke his chains. He snatched up Lu Tien, and crushed him underfoot. His rampage ended when he climbed to the summit of the Connaught Centre skyscraper, and Samantha was sent to the summit to calm him down. Unfortunately, General Huan decided to take the opening, and slaughtered the massive ape using high explosives to knock him off the building. Samantha was caught in the crossfire - she's dead, too. General Huan is being skewered in the press, and Feng is in the hospital being treated for burns. Utam's body is being sent to HKU for dissection and study.

Genetic testing on Utam has determined that the ape was, in spite of claims to the contrary, not a Kong. In fact, it seems to have been a relative of some kind, similar in scope to the relation between gorillas and orangutans.

Reality check: This is the "Mighty Peking Man" from 1977. I do not own the rights, etc, etc...
