Description

As Denham, Hilda, and I tramped through the jungle, we all heard a loud crashing sound from the bushes behind us. We turned about just in time to see the largest bear any of us had ever met crashing out of the trees. Built with the characteristic shape of a grizzly bear, but with a far larger head for its body size, the huge ursine snorted, narrowed its tiny eyes at us, and charged. Denham fired a round at it from his rifle, knocking it slightly off-balance, but it swiftly righted itself and started after us again. We sprinted away as fast as we could, but soon found ourselves backed against a cliff. Hilda let out a tremendous shriek, and the bear roared in response as it lunged for us.

Suddenly, a huge pale, mud-streaked form slammed into the bear’s side, knocking it clear off its feet. The beast bellowed at its attacker, and the Son of Kong roared right back. As Denham, Hilda, and I quietly watched, the two creatures clashed once more.

At first, it seemed that the bear had the upper hand. Larger and more heavily built, and equipped with claws the size of our arms, the brute fearlessly lunged and clawed at the young Kong again and again – but the great ape was slightly swifter than the bear, and far cleverer. Hauling a huge, decaying log off of the ground, the Son of Kong finally used it as a makeshift club to bash his foe in the head until the bear finally fled. We have not seen it since, and hope that it’s decided to leave us alone for good.
