From the diary of Archdeacon Matthew Thornbill.

"September 28, 1612
I've traced the origin of this perculiar coven for a decade now. They hid among the faithful and arrived soon after the cataclysm.
Some know little and run off to the medicine men of the wild folk to the dismay of the elders. They waste my time.

July 9, 1613
I've come to Gordon's Harbour. At least here is a clean breeze from the sea and I am not pestered by quarrels.
In the rolls of tarrifs I found a ship by the name of Rosalind Gay that arrived on the storms of 1515,
with fugitives, come to found a hamlet of Jemsbury, that I do not find on any of my recent maps.
Reading the old names gave me pause and a worry to my heart, though I can not point it to reason.

January 4, 1614
I've spent the winter on following up the records of Jemsbury Flock.
At first I was dissappointed by the lack of findings, but the very obscurity turned itself into a pattern.
Even the lowliest sinner leaves his traces on the world, but the names of those men and women on the Rosalind Gay vanished.
Only once their spell of secrecy failed them. A letter from one Reverend Sonderby to his niece, declaring his upcoming visit to their relatives at Misquahanna Ridge.
There my eyes stumbled on the Rosalind Gay and a tome to be delivered on his way. He was declared missing and dead some time after.

April 26, 1614
I have prepared for my journey to Jemsbury location, and will leave tomorrow with Seavers and a trusty native guide,
to be at the Misquahanna bridge when the mountain trails become passable in May.

August 8, 1614 - from memory
Fearing for my sanity if I put down these lines. But my duty. Seavers run into the wild alone in madness. We came upon some traces of settlement. The night moaned and howled and we followed an eerie light. In a crevice we found the corpse of Sonderby, frozen and cold. When day broke we took him out into the glade, and he seemed as if he just died and not a century ago.

Then we heard Sonderby call out to us and he seemd as if alive and asked where he was.
Old fashiond and delirious were his words, and we were too shaken to make much of them, and only part I can put down from memory:

Howling and worshippin there was. I called out and she came to me, glowing and ice. I stood defiant in faith and demanded her name. I was carried to great heights and deadly winds.
Listen, she whispered, the codifex polyphormos, the heavenly throne, the blood harvester and the iron cane, they know it, and their pride is vain.
She who shook the earth was my name once, The Witch, to your kind, yet another secret name I bear for them who pry in secrets.
And to those who live under my spell - I am the Wendigo.

When the sun struck Sonderby, he turned all grey and bloated and vomited ichor and changed into a hideous corpse while yet moving. We fled then.

October 11, 1614
I have returned to Gordons with all speed. My strenght and faith does not avail. With deep reluctance I have decided to petition my superiors to involve the Order."
