Description Three days before midsummer of 1514 a trader from New Georgia arrived in Helluland, when the days only faint into an uneasy dusk and night never comes. On shivering waves it drifted with little sails and carried no goods, but a flock of pilgrims, women and children, and a fever, from the west. The ship was burned, the pilgrims detained to a solitary island. Too late, too late.

A bit of an unplanned addition, result of an experiment that turned out nice enough, the render intentionally crude to keep the loose impressions.

I tried to catch the mood of some maritime paintings.

I realize this is a quick render giving the 'hazy' look but it looks superb! So much like a painting. Love the colours too!

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to Kibosh-1 [2019-03-24 08:16:34 +0000 UTC]

The colors are actually due to a Topaz Studio filter, but yes, especially for landscapes I like the crude renders sometimes more, there's often some sweet spot were everything looks very soft and natural .

Kibosh-1 In reply to Magnus-Strindboem [2019-03-26 06:56:24 +0000 UTC]

I agree, unless it's an architectural render or something similar, I prefer the softer natural look for outdoor scenes too.

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to Aping-Pixels [2019-03-17 08:39:59 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like it. Yes the grain and mist tends to disappear after a while so the short render works quite well here. Unfortunately it looks bad on persons in closeup so it's no sure fire thing.

Danke Es ist natürlich Geschmackssache und viele bevorzugen die sehr scharf ausgerenderten Bilder, aber mir geht es oft so, das mir der Eindruck am Anfang des Renders tatsächlich besser gefällt...

Cool landscape picture.

I really want to try to make one of those, but I'll wait to have finish the storyline for that.

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to Mekheke [2019-03-16 11:31:34 +0000 UTC]

I did not really plan for it (actually i mostly turned the camera around from the village scene) but it looked quite nice and fit into the storyline.

At first the image seems tranquilizing, but with the description, now it seems sad, still more with that loneliness that evokes
great work

Yeah, though it's midsummer and people running around with t-shirts and daiquiris... but then they're accustomed to the cold, I guess.

Das krisselige durch die paar Iterationen wirkt hier sogar richtig gut zur nebeligen / dunstigen Stimmung die zu so einer Szene gehört.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to PSK-Projekt4D [2019-03-14 10:26:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, glad you like it, even if it looks like it was done by an Impressionist with a hangover. And while plagues come and go, this is going to lead into a decent mess.

Interesting paint stylization turned out.

How do you make the coastal foam? I still on Landscapes: Jungle River wanted to ask, but didn't immediately ask and forgot.

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to GETSX [2019-03-12 17:48:21 +0000 UTC]

It's an older set from Sickleyield. SY Splashing Water Iray 3D Models SickleYield

Now as far as I'm concerned it's not up to her usual standard, an I would only recommend it on a sale, but of all the stuff in there, the coast prop with the foam is the most useful.

Once there was the light (and warmth) but the world has moved on since then (very rough paraphrase). The scene seems peaceful and serene. The written vignette reveals another side to the story. Nice.
