Description The coast of New Georgia is a place of haunting beauty. The warmth of the ocean drives back the snow and the valleys are covered by everlasting mists.
When the sun rises over the towering Dominion Range, the forests and meadows turn into a magical realm of rays and glitters and shadowy isles of lush flowers.
Nature itself taunts the modesty and seemliness of the Pilgrims in this place they came to build their new haven.

Since the whole staff is busy building sets, casting actors and writing scripts, I'll push some of the ongoing concept work in the meantime. Hope you like it

A wonderful, mystical, magical scene! It looks like the power of nature dominates the world and there's nothing able to stop the lush growth from spreading everywhere. All the soft light gives it that dreamy, magical feel.
I have that set but it never looked that goodΒ Β  Now you've inspired me to make some more landscapes!!Β

It was just a little concept work to get some old New England mood I did some time ago. Had it in the drawer and then decided to go over it with some Topaz filters and was amazed by the result myself

It sure IS a magic country. And scary, too, for non-elves or people that bring evil there... (though there are no elves in Witchwinter )

It's not neccessarily realistic, more like the characters and people of the story may be experiencing this place. It's a paradise in more ways than one, but it can turn into a horror trip, too at times. And it's very hard to leave...

Lol... a bit like that. Technically they're rebels or at least malcontents in their respective homelands (and for the same reason they're not likely to move to the settlements north and south of them) but the Witchwinter event closed the passes over the dominion range to the east.Β  So they're stuck in this region which is decently sized but still limited.

well this is 3d impressionism very nice

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to caastel [2019-04-25 08:40:00 +0000 UTC]

It is. I do love the way light is treated in impressionism a lot actually.

Quite likely I will move more into this direction with the next series of pictures, because I do not think bare render (like photography) is really well suited to storytelling. It is to limiting on the imagination of the viewer/reader.

Not directly. It is a hint towards some of the regions that I used for reference and their role in literature.

But the flora (and fauna) has a high rate of metabolism. More like tropical rainforest than temperate climate.

It is also very intense on human psychology, like being slightly drugged with more intense color and light sensitivity.Β

Given the right circumstance, panic or agression is also a possibility.Β Β
