i am not sure if i can describe it as a "step by step" process.
prime, paint the main colors, build, decal, then do the details and weathering (while keeping in mind that this guy is actually a 18 meters tall giant robot ), i guess is the best i can offer
there are a lot of useful tutorials about weathering in youtube too.

What amazes me is, about 10 years ago when I put my Ez8 together, I also destroyed the shield decal and had to hand paint the numbers in.
Great looking gundam!

This is sfull of WIN! My MG Ground Gundam should arrive shortly, and I'm debating on making it look brand-new or weather it...but I have very little experience weathering Gunpla so I'm scared of ruining it...
Whatever the case, this looks great! It makes the Ez8 look more presentable!
It's also good to see that someone else likes painting those little figures that old MG's and some NG 1/100 models come with. Defenetly looking forward to the painted Shiro figure!

thank you ^_^
there's also a ground gundam in my gallery somewhere, if you haven't seen it before ^_^
there isn't much that can go wrong with weathering.
more "accidental" it looks the better afterall ^_^
you can scratch anything you don't like or put another layer of paint or wash anytime.
and it only adds to the texture ^_^
just loose it ^_^
if you still don't feel too secure, there's plenty of videos on the net that shows how to do it.
good luck!

You should've redrawn all the decals using a mechanical pencil! XD The way you did the shield decal fits so well with the weathered look. Awesome as always! May I ask how you paint? I'm not sure if I asked you that before already, but I really wanna know XD If that's fine with you of course

thanks ^_^
this one was painted mostly using spray paints. then weathered with drybrushing.
i prefer matt paints over glossy ones generally.
i used to use gloss paints if i have waterslide decals for models. but now i have mr mark softer and mr mark fitter. so that's no longer a requirement ^_^ ... i hope. didn't have chance to experience much tho.

Mr Mark Softer and Mr Mark Fitter? What are those if I'm not being a bother?

they are special liquids that you apply over waterslide decals.
they help decals to fit into niches and crevices on models, by slightly melting them.
if you don't use them, you'll have air bubbles between model and the decal, and will look fake.
another method is applying gloss before applying decals. but these give better results.

Oooh, I'd take that into consideration! Any ideas as to how to make Waterslide decals show up better when applied on black surfaces? Eva model kits come with waterslide decals, the white on black ones are okay, but there is one green decal that you have to apply on a black surface, and it's barely visible if at all...

there isn't much really >_>
even painting a dark surface with lighter color is problematic.
maybe you can find some dry transfer decals. they dont have that kind of problems.

Ahh, okay, will look into them then, next time I build an Eva kit. Thanks!
