Description
Here is my Finished 1/100 Master Grade Jesta model. Hand painted and weathered, with the exception of flat black, primer (krylon) and spray top coat (testors dull) I built this kit as a nice diversion from 1/35(and a procrastination project, as I should of been building a diorama) This kit was pretty dang incredible and allot of fun to paint, put together, and of course play with XDΒ For the most part I built him "outta the box" swapped beam saber color and gave him old MG handguns and a knife.MG gundam kits have always been a bit intimidating to me. They contain allot of parts (moving parts too) are pretty complex and there is allot to screw up. Years ago I built a few MG's without paint and thought I would never reach a level whereΒ could paint one. Anyways with this build I wanted to keep it simple and not take too much on. While I had a bunch of smaller mistakes and I am not incredibly impressed with some of my effects, I am pretty proud of what I was able to accomplish on this one. Being a bit unsatisfied is a good thing as it will make me want to do even better on the next one of these I build.
Anyways I built this guy in the hopes of getting tons of pictures of him. This weekend I hope to see how he does outside and do a bit more of a goofy photo shoot. I got a few more "accessories" I am working on for him that will be done this weekend if the weather is good......
Questions, comments and suggestions welcome!

great to hear. they are very fun models and really worth the $$$.
this is a bigger model (MG master grade line) they around the 50-100 range. here is a listing for this one www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-Jeβ¦
and there are smaller ones as well that are pretty nice, the HG line(high grade) www.amazon.com/Bandai-RGM-96X-β¦ think you would have a ton of fun with a "HG gundam" model. even if you hated it, the parts would be cool for you to use else where.
they come molded in different colors so you don't have to worry about painting(tho i do paint mine) and they are snap tight so you dont have to worry about glue.

if you got a "HG gundam" kit(just Google or use amazon or whatever) then yes there would be a way to do it.Β alot of the parts are like armor plates, so i could see how you could convert those parts for that kinda project. "kitbashing" might be the easiest and most cost effective way to do that kinda thing as well.

Awesome!Β I'd love to learn how to paint model that well.Β I generally assemlbe then, shave down the points whee the pices were attached tot the trees and apply stickers if they're included.Β What did you use to paint it anyway?

Thanks!
awesome dude, i am sure you could. you know i was pretty much doing the same thing just a few years ago. anways sorry if i ramble on but here is some of things i did on this one that might help you get started.
I used krylon spray cans for the primer and flat black(inner frame) they were of the "color masters" and "dual" variety(can be found in most major US stores). most of the inner frame i cut, removed nubs, assembled then sprayed with the flat black. with any spray it will take a few coats(its better to work with up thin coats then go on heavy).
on this model, all the armorΒ gets added on top of the frame. so i cleaned up each piece, used alligator clips to the underside of the part and primed them, then hand painted with "model master" brandΒ enamels www.scalehobbyist.com/catagoriβ¦ i did a bit of weathering but that's a topic for a different day. here is a couple of quick tutorials that might help with that enc86.deviantart.com/art/Dry-Bβ¦ enc86.deviantart.com/art/Wash-β¦
or coarse you could always do some of these steps butΒ spray each piece with a color of your choosing instead of hand painting.Β one tip if you have never spray painted before, grab a scrap piece of cardboard and practice for a bit. use smooth sweeping arm stokes with light taps on the cans trigger. it should be about 8-12 inches away from the object and just keep moving(staying in a spot creates thick paint and drips) anyways if you see drips on the cardboard you need a bit more work as that would be too thick for a model. most of the time when i spray i do do two light coats.
It sounds like alot but really its not that bad. will take a bit of work, practice and mistakes but its worth it.
anywho sorry for the info dump! if you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask.

Looks awesome dude!
If you are feeling ambitious, I recommend trying to build something from the Armored Core Variable Infinity series (that is, if you like AC stuff). Β
I really want to try one sometime, but am a complete amateur, so the kit would be wasted on me.

hummm ill have to give one a shot. i have looked at the models a few times, every time i did i was a bit scared but now that i have this one under my belt, i think i could do it. anyways my model stash is just about at its limit but my be in a few months ill pick one up. i love the designs and see me having a blast weathering one.

No problem!
Yeah, I've always just pieces the kits together with some minor sanding...it's sad, considering how much potential a kit can have in the hands of an experienced modeler.
Good luck with your future projects!
