Description 5th century Frankish woman. Franks were a Germanic tribe, that migrated to Gaul somewhere in the 5th century. Somewhere in the middle of the century, a Merovingian dynasty was formed and it ruled the Franks until 752.

She wears a knee-long tunic fastened with an incarnate belt, cloak fastened with a brooch and hose with garters.

Disclaimer! Please bear in mind, that there's limited resources for the centuries of Merovingian dynasty and therefore the outfit cannot be 100% (or even 75%) accurate. I tried to base it on the pictures found on the internet (it's not always accurate) + people's cosplays (also not accurate) + Arnegunde's tomb (more accurate, but then she lived in the 6th century not 5th)

were short skirts acceptable there at the time? or is it at author's discretion?

I based it on Arnegunde's outfit, which is often depicted as above ankles. But as I said in the description, a lot is my discretion, there's not much sources

Thanks for covering the early middle ages a bit, even if it's not 100% accurate, these times tend to get left out a lot.
