so, my girlfriend says to me "Quake Woman looks like robot Sailor Jupiter with pig tails..."I couldn't resist drawing Quake Woman as a robo sailor scout...but I couldn't decide on the colors so I did two treatments.

Hair is always fun to mess with. In real life people change their clothes and hairstyles all the time, in comics people go insane if you alter their favorite heroes in anyway. Very odd!
I like the quake scheme the most but I like to give options!

Tell me about it. I still see rage at the Sally redesign for the Sonic series.
Fortunately, I'm not one of those people. I understand that sometimes, a character needs to change to keep them fresh.
And yes, the Quake scheme is better (but not by much), and the Sailor scheme would probably be better as a sort of alt outfit for her for a fighting game.

90% of the hate is directed at the face redesign, not the outfit. There's even a deviantart group acting as a petition not to change her face.

Hm. It would've been more accurate of me to say that at the convention Archie showed a redesign which we later were told was not necessarily finalized, so what we saw there might not actually be what we get in the end. But basically in the redesign Sally's fuzzy-furry-chipmunk face got a shave leaving her all smooth and plasticy. Personally I don't like it at all. Many of the game characters work well with smooth faces, but I wouldn't want to see Tails get a shave either.

yeah, after we spoke I took a look at the image, which I believe was drawn by Ben Bates. I remember I was sitting on the panel when they showed it at NYCC. I see what you're talking about, although I didn't notice it at first but her cheeks were very round and smooth. I can see why people were upset at that but part of doing the concept work for a character is going off and doing completely new and different things. I did a bunch of designs for Archie for some things that are coming up that went through several revisions before it got finalized. I'm sure we'll see her face fuzz back by the time she shows up in the books, and if we don't, they'll have good reason to do it. I believe Ian and Ben, and all the guys working on that title know exactly what they're doing.

It does, but people are upset that Sally's getting redesigned. They feel that it should remain blue vest + boots despite her looking notably underdressed next to the other newer female characters (Which I suppose is one of the reasons for the redesign.)

It's true , and u cant put a shirt on him, spikes on his back. I guess it wouldn't work for some, but putting some clothing on Sally is not the end of the world. She's still Sally. In not saying I approve all changes, the iconic ones r hard to mess with

And I agree, but there are people out there who think that all things should be set in stone, and that any changes would do irreparable damage to the series in question.
It's amazing how people can get upset over the littlest things. Personally, I'm in favor of the change.

Yeah, in moderation. If superman started wearing a tutu and cowboy boots I'd be very concerned. Preserving iconic elements is important. But people forgot original Sally had no clothes. And her jacket wasn't iconic.

Yeah. Neither was her current color scheme. I remember back in the original issues, she had pink fur and black hair.

Then again there have been times where changes have had the overstated "apocalyptic" effect. Xenosaga Episode 2 was one such instance. The series was intended to span six games, but the harsh reaction to the changes in the second title forced Namco to cut the series in half, and release Episode 3 as the final game in the series.

Yeah it was. But I currently am reading a fanfic that is just so good, it makes it feel like I'm watching the cartoon in a modern setting. It's called Mega Man: Defender of the Human Race. I do a fanfic myself and it's Mega Man: Reawakened. That link I provided you shows my OC, Mega Man RA.

Yep. The reason why I created this fic is simple... I want to create my own universe where it's free from continuity and where it can stand on it's own. I struggle trying to write it due to all sorts of distractions and even now, I try my hardest in doing so.
