Description After 65-70 hours over 5 days, i've now finally finished my first water drawing, and this is defintely now my most difficult and most complicated drawing to date. Trying to capture water for the first time was a long process of trial and error and took me about 17 hours alone just to get the water up to this point. Hopefully now that i have a better understanding of water, my future drawings involving water will be less difficult

As there's one thing in graphite that always leaves me gobsmacked it's water. And up until now i've not even attemptd to draw water before, so this was in fact be my first ever attempt at drawing water. In this paricular drawing the water is not the only focal point, so that allowed me to get the hang of drawing it first. But now that i more feel comfortable, i will start to do more compicated drawings that have water in it in the future.

On top of learning how to draw water, i chose this specific pose of a thirsty young boy drinking as my first real 'artistic' A3 drawing. By artistic i mean drawings that are more serious and may have some kind of message behind them and make you think. Whereas thre rest of my art work, does not really have much meaning behind them.

Drawing was done on A3 bristol board with mechanical and standard graphite pencils.

Here are some of my other graphite drawings.

Opening Notes: Im sure there are gonna be a lot of crits for this, but I'd like to add what I think as well. I always say I keep it short but that never happens e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="19" height="19" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="234" title="Shrug"/> So here goes:

e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="211" title="Bullet; Blue"/>: Vision: When I saw this drawing, I immediately connected to your vision of it. You wanted to portray the boys who are thirsty, struck by poverty and cannot afford water. They rejoice in the drops that they can drink, knowing well that nothing really quenches their innocent thirst. Even in this drawing, the boy's expression says it all. So I'd give a 5star on vision, sentiments aside.

e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="211" title="Bullet; Blue"/>: Originality: Now, this is a touchy subject. I have to say, a thirsty poor boy isnt the most original of ideas, photographers everywhere have captured countless pictures of them, but I gave a 3star because I didn't see majority dA artist attempting this theme and also I had a hard time hunting the ref down e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="387" title=" (Wink)"/> Also, I like your touches to the drawing like shading the water's back so it looks like a flash photograph, adding a few drips of water from the tap, adding cracks to the tap etc; these added stuffs are really nice.

e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="211" title="Bullet; Blue"/>: Technique: *Pen-Tacular-Artist , you are known for your pencil/graphite mastery, so technique is something you deserve 5 stars. BUTI gave it 4.5 because, I see there is always room for improvement. For example, blending on the boy's fingers should be more prominent, you want that smooth transition from skin to water, so that the water dripping along his hands can be seen clearly. The hair on the forehead that seems 'separated' from the rest, should be lighter. Otherwise it looks a little odd. Mainly, you should strive for a DOF establishment that draws your viewers in to whats really the main focus of the drawing. I know this is super hard to achieve on a graphite drawing, but i know you can pull it off. What i mean is, this could be drawn in such a way that it looks as though the right shoulder, jacket is gradually blurred into the background, and so is the rock on the kid's left. This will achieve that "lens" feel to the drawing, commading attention to three dimensions.

e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="211" title="Bullet; Blue"/>: Impact: Nevertheless, when I saw this, i was wowed and that is all the reward any artist wishes for. 5star on impact is not enough, in my opinion, both for your hard work and countless hours spent on this drawing, which according to me as well, is your best piece yet.

Closing Notes: I told you this was gonna be long, and I meant it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="384" title="LOL"/> Anyway, thanks for stunning us yet again with such a fantastic drawing. Hope to see more, and I know you will deliver the best with each drawing.

Very nicely done, Aadi. Couldn't have put it better myself, despite the fact that I could not have drawn this at my current level of practice.

Well, with how respected an artist you are, I don't think it was an unwise decision. Probably makes it easier for people to relate with you personally.

This piece spectacularly demonstrates the remarkable impact the simple act of taking a drink can have on people. When viewing the image, the person is liable to think that this is a homeless or very poor boy slaking his thirst in the only way he knows how, from a rusty pipe and nozzle. We are automatically drawn to him, wanting to help ease his plight, and impressed by his ability to take it in stride. To him, it seems, this is as normal as breathing. It is he who cannot understand us.

Water is always a tricky thing to capture, but this piece has done so. There is no flaw to the drawing of water. It seems to have the correct shine, reflection, and air rushing through as we would expect. It flows down the child's hands and pools in his cupped palms, points that many artists forget when they draw such things.

The detail of the child and drawings are fantastic. You accurately created his look and clothes.

Very well done. There is no flaw that can be found in this drawing by this author. And we salute you sir.
