Description Now that I've finished this drawing, I can see what areas I have improved on and what still needs to be worked on. Overall i'm happy with the outcome and the progress I've made from my original drawing of 'Al Pacino' 5 months ago. And the addition of charcoal for the darks and rougher cartridge paper has made a difference. I will probably do the pros and cons of charcoal and cartridge paper in the future.

The reason I decided to redraw my 'Al Pacino' portrait fav.me/d5zhsod , that I originally done 5 months ago was for a number of reasons. Firstly I always really liked this drawing and regretted doing it on a small A4 rather than A3, So I was always planning to redraw it on A bigger A3 paper, so now was a good a time as any.

Secondly Its also a really great drawing to test out big contrasts between dark and light. I originally tested this with graphite on this drawing, but now I want to test charcoal and graphite on cartridge paper. And lastly I feel its a good way to see how much I've really improved. And as the original still a good drawing, it will not be easy for me to drastically improve on or beat. And will therefore show me what areas I have to still work on.

The drawing was done on A3 cartridge paper, using graphite and charcoal pencils. Approx 30-35 hoUrs to complete.

Here are some of my other graphite drawings.

Once more, your efforts are inspiring. Your emotion, attention to detail and realism in your work staggers the imagination. Your Al Pacino is as real to anyone as a photograph done in black and white, and your work with things like wrinkles, age spots, webbing between fingers, and even individual eyelash hairs is amazing.

The shading for the background is nice. It is what can be realistically expected for something like portrait and sets off the picture very nicely.

The originality of this piece is expert. I don't think I've run across another Al-Pacino while exploring, and I don't expect to meet up with one that looks like this, unless I literally bump into the guy. Well done!

O.O i love it. As always you continue to amaze and inspire me! You did a fantastic job with this piece and I can REALLY see how much you have improved (which is crazy because your first drawing was already INCREDIBLE!!) At this rate of progression you will be reaching your goal of hypperrealism in no time at all! I think the charcoal helped a lot, it really added some drama to this one!! Awesome, awesome awesome work!!
Deuces!

Thanks a lot. The charcoal has definitely added more depth, but like I said its real messy and tough to use. Thanks for the feedback asΒ somedays I feel like i'm getting close to 'hyperrealism' and then other days I feel like i'm a million miles away,Β XD.
