Description
Category: Sigil (S)Goal To try something new. To draw something without having to improve it digitally. To create the most complicated sigil I have ever seen using only fineliners, rulers and my hands. To draw something that viewed every time could be interpreted in a different way. To test my concentration (you can easily miss a line if you don't draw a line on the opposite side) and my ability to make a sigil look symethric using only my hands, rulers and compasses (that's right! No mirror-reflecting filters have been used! Look at the lines in the center to see how much the lines are imperfect to be considered as created with the use of reflect or copy-paste-turnaround-place techniques). To try known filters in a completely new situation (contains filters like diffuse glow, smart blur and contrast/brightness adjustments and invert colours)
Additional goals achieved This deviation was a base for a couple of other works containing filters llike geometric shapes. This was also the first time when a deviation with inverted colours looked better than the original one. And it worked so nicely with the change colour balance filter. I don't like red colour much, but I like the way it turned out.
Technique I drew the lineart using Stabilo fineliners. I used compasses to draw the circle and mark the measurments and I used a ruler to draw straight frames and lines. I began with a circle, then splited it diagonally, horizontally, vertically, the split the new shapes once again and the new ones too. I drew a line with a pencil first on on side and then on the other to make sure I don't get lost in this maze of geometric shapes. After finishing the drawing with a pencil I covered the lines I liked using fineliners and I erased the lines I didn't like (that didn't create interesting geometric shapes). I pressed the fineliner quite hard to make sure that the lines are smooth and without blank spots. I scanned it (300dpi) and worked on it in Paintshop 9. I used the smart blur filter to make it look smoother, I made the image darker for better lineart. I used the diffuse glow filter for the background light and then I inverted the colour and played with the colour balance to apply a red colour scheme.
Story There's no great story behind this picture. I had no electricity and home and concentrated on something I could accomplish without any electricity-powered medias. I just wanted a nice, complicated sigil that would affect my mind and inspire me to draw even better patterns, circlets, armor and weapon designs. It helped me a lot.
Next experiment The lines are too simple to make a circlet out of it, but I might create new sigils soon or use something alike in shieled and armor designs.
Time spent on this About 15 hours.
Dedicated to a very kind person with a great sense of humour and imagination
If You have further questions, even if not related with this picture or my art, feel free to ask. Oh, I am trying to add new information to this type of "tag", so if You want to suggest me something "(for example: add inspirations, tell us what music inspired you or you were listening at that time etc.) please don't be shy and do it. I really appreciate Your help.
Best wishes to You, my Friends.

That is an excellent logo. It appears to be sort of fractal to me, but who am I to comment? You chose some really excellent colours and shapes, and it looks like a mosaic to me. Great work!

Well the goal was to make it look like some sort of stained glass

And you've succeeded, but if you really want to create the illusion of stained glass, you'll need a lot more colour.

Yes, yes, I know. I didn't meant stained glass litteraly. I call almost all of my alike works "patterns". Some call them mandalas. Well, that's quite accurate, but I'm still looking for a perfect name for such creations. My works are influenced by celtic knots.

I can see the resemblance. You do have quite the knack for this sort of thing. You're going to go places.

I hope so, but maybe tomorrow I'll create something even better. This lack of complete satisfaction drives me to draw better and better. Improvement is always possible.

Why are you lacking in satisfaction? Your work is found to be of a very high standard. Why does that not satisfy you enough? Then again, I suppose the pinnacle is reached through constant work, so I understand a little.

I am satisfied by the fact that I achieved something: a great shape or vision, but there is always something that can be doen better. But I do it better in every following artwork. If you look in my scraps, you'll see that my Naga was redrawn three times

Well, it certainly achieves the desired effect. You manage to create a masterpiece with every redraw. You've reached the pinnacle of art, my friend, and you've done it with style.

Haha, thanks. I'm always looking for something new however. Maybe I'll combine something of asian art with such mandalas or something like viking themed imagery Who knows...

The technique is described in the comment below the deviation. Simplified: inked, the scanned, then inverted colours then changed hue.
