This is the first fantasy creature I made for my new beast collection. I experimented a little and used big, fat colour pencils. Hope you'll like it.Related content

Hmm... actually I don't remember if the movie was first. The Naga in the game Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was named "Skorpena", because "Naga" means literally "(she is) nude". I didn't know that a fish like Scorpaena exists, so I thought it originates from the word "Scorpion". I still have a small drawing of this creature in a notebook that was meant to be a basis for an ambitious card-based fantasy game.
Of course, even in case of scientific studies and Nobel prizes it comes to situations where scientists develop the same idea indepentently. I had quite a few situations where I thought I came up with something original only to find someone thought of it independently sooner or later.

I could name some examples of this... back in elementary school I came up with the idea of a princess changing into an ogre during a bloody moon where all monsters go rampage....
...and then I saw princess Fiona in Shrek...
Another time I worked with my subconscious and got an idea of a naked woman being the mast of a ship. She looked like crucified. I rejected this idea.
Recently I saw a daily deviation that had a similar thought behind it. It was a woman looking nude when seen from afar (on the thumbnail), but skimply clothed in fullview, having the head of an animal (most of my subconscious ideas featured nude women being part animal, or part elemental) and in a crucified pose. I'm not sure but there was a see in the background.

cant say i like all of it, but i do like the detail on the scorpian part. i know its not a real creature so there is know way anyone could possibly know the true anatomy of scorpeen, but maybe it would look better if you adjusted the anatomy a little, so it blends and looks more realistic. sorry im nit picking, very good ink work though (presuming that is in

Thanks for the comment. It was one of my early woks and the perspective and anatomy isn't perfect. Im planning to update it, add a background etc. And yes, it was inked before scanning.

Oo, the highlights on the tail are awesome, they really make the thing come to life. Also, I absolutely love the coloring of the skin, it looks so soft and natural. I always fight with skin color and most of the time it just doesn't end up the way I like it.

Thank You very much. This was my first piece I think using oily colour pencils. I managed to get the shine effect by hand. Now i seem to have lost the ability, or those pencils got "damaged" in some way so it wouldnt be possible I guess. I plan to update it like i updated the Naga and also adda a background.
