Description
DA ate the whole name.Guardian of The Everglowing Lantern.
My latest work with toned paper. Colored pencils, soft pastels.
It was fun to play with the lightning on the lion's anthropomorphic body. That's why I chose not to put much clothing on him (he has some loincloth though, you can see that from the string around his waist).
Edit: wow, that's amazing what DA does to color profiles. o_o The thumbnail even has different tone!
Edit2: OMG! My 3rd DD! Thanks a lot!

Loving it. Everythign in picture works perfectly:
The blue theme, the eyes, soft skin/fur, anatomy that is perfectly fluent.
And... he is so handsome, calm, sullen and spiritual (good, protected feeling looking at his face)
..that it almost is enough to love this characterr regardless of gender. I did. Yeah

Nice. Even after dA got through mangling it, the lighting effect you created is impressive, especially considering you managed it all in a single tone. Impressive technique. And with colored pencils, no less...
What do you do to blend it like that?

Thank You! Actually the only thing DA was unable to process is the color profile. The thumbnail has different tone from the full view.
What I do to blend it? I guess it's the colored pencils, they're wax based and they blend together spontaneously. Also I used soft pastel for the very soft tones, maybe that's what gives the feeling.

I see. That's not so bad, then. I rather like the "night blue" look.
Say, I have another friend here who does realistic portraits in colored pencil, which I think is pretty brave, and if you have any advice for her, I know she'd appreciate it - she always wants to improve. I'm not a visual artist, so I can't do much in that respect. *furawatchi23 She's good for her age, but not as good as you. If you don't want to bother, that's fine, but it would make her happy. She was literally the first person to say "Welcome to dA!" when I first signed up, so I owe her some loyalty.

Hello there,
your friend really has a talent for her age and there's still a lot of space for her to improve. I'd really like to give her some advice or something but I myself am a self taught artist and I don't draw people much, I draw from fantasy and intuition. Maybe she could seek some advice from some of the local portraitist? I'd like to help but I'm no professional, sorry. There are more suitable people around.

Oh, that's okay. I just thought I'd ask, since I'm obliged to her and all. No problem. I agree, though - she's improved visibly even in the short time I've been on this site. I think her work also suffers from evil-scanner-syndrome (ESS) a little more than most, since she doesn't have access to professional equipment. Thanks for checking it out!

most anthro-art that i seen either has the manimal either nude(genitals and all) or in a loincloth?? either way i dooo like the lighting in this one. and the fiercy-ness in the lion's gaze. yay 10/10

Well, animals go naked all the time anyway, so I should think it a nice compromise that they even put a loincloth on them. ^_^

roflmaster94 In reply to AshiraAngel [2010-08-29 17:39:20 +0000 UTC]
hmmmmm...... true. i cant deny a compromise like that, this is just a thought but what if animals were to walk and talk like humans, do you think they would wear cloths?
π: 0 β©: 1
AshiraAngel In reply to roflmaster94 [2010-08-29 21:41:47 +0000 UTC]
Interesting thought.
I don't think so, unless they lost all their fur, because clothes were originally made for warmth and protection, right? (Now we wear them for... different reasons xD)
It's usually best to, ah, cover stuff up here when you're posting it on dA, though, because you'll always get some idiot telling you you're a perv for uploading nude art.

roflmaster94 In reply to AshiraAngel [2010-08-30 23:16:25 +0000 UTC]
so its not only for wormth, like u said it could also be for protecting the genitals.
and either way art is art, though i dont really approve of nude art that much(when they use it in pornographic reasons)other then that its all natural to me. so like why deny what u are(in this case an anthropomorphic animal)

AshiraAngel In reply to roflmaster94 [2010-09-01 14:19:48 +0000 UTC]
True.
Well, there is that difference between nude art and porn that just never fails to provide controversy on dA.
But, so what do you mean? Are you saying that you think all anthros should go naked or wear clothes?
