One of only three nearly identical shots that I got while I was on vacation a couple weeks ago. I wish I could've gotten a few different compositions of this place, but there were tons of people and I didn't want to be in their way for too long. I also wish I could've had more time to hike, but what can you do

Enjoy, have a great week If you found this photo via a group, comment which one

Hey there! Thank you for your submission to for feedback!
This is a lovely shot! I really like the way you've positioned it, the light is very nice and I like how the water is coming from above the view! It creates a very nice depth!
I have only one tip for you:
Do not worry or care about being in people's way. We all need to wait our turn, and when it is there, we need to enjoy it. So take your time, don't feel rushed. Take pictures as you see fit!
I hope this helps, and if you have questions, please ask!

Thank you apparently there's some places like this in Iowa, but I haven't had the time to get out to explore them yet... Can't wait until I get that opportunity.

I know the feeling, when you want to take a picture of something, and people move around, and you pay more attention to avoid any of them t be in your shot and you forget about the camera settings
If you wouldn't have given the explanation, I would have said that the sky is a bit overexposed and in my opinion you shouldn't have caught any sky at all - the view is amazing without sky

But, don't give up, and take any chance you have

If I've understood your comment correctly, you seem to be implying that the sky has turned gray due to heavy highlight recovery in post-processing necessitated by overexposure, which, while I have seen happen, and have had happen in my own work, is not the case for this photo. This is an HDR image, and the darkest exposure is far dark enough to avoid highlight clipping (sta.sh/01z65wsseq2r ). When I exported it from Lightroom, there was no clipping in the highlights. There were some small areas that were nearly blown out, but still retained their detail. The actual reason why the sky is gray is simply because it was overcast.

Regardless of the reason, I thank you for taking the time to leave a well written, constructive comment. I'd take one of these over a thousand "Good work!" comments any day if I ever go back there, I'll be sure to try to get some photos without the sky and see how I like them

I was not implying the sky after post-processing, because you already caught the sky in the shot, and also the sky lightens the waterfall, and you got it correctly (it is not clipping in highlights, and it's not white for the viewer - it's grey). The comment was meant to be about the composition itself (sadly English is not my native language, so sorry for misunderstanding) - the sky should not be in the photo at all, in my opinion - and you would have had a canyon with the waterfall, but, in the same time, the photo should have been darker - if you have been lowering the photo angle, but it would have given you a better perspective of the ground and walls.

It's not about post-processing, it's just about the angle, because when you look at it, the viewer has the tendency to look at the light part, which is also grey not blue (I don't think from this angle it could have been blue). Actually the sky is the reason why I gave you the comment, because I saw your photo in an approval process in a group, and I opened the full-view in order to see the actual photo. In thumbnail one cannot see all details

But I like the reflection and the details in the lower part - good job And also I like the details on the canyon walls and the colors of the image

I know how it feels to receive "good work" comments, because usually people are afraid to give opinions and tips for the works they see in order not to be understood wrong. Not everyone accepts this type of comments, and not everyone knows how to express what they want to say

But thanks for your understanding

I understand now, thank you for clarifying! I tried to pull attention away from the sky the best I could, but I agree that it still does remain a bit distracting. Like I said, I'll be sure to try a composition without the sky in the future!
