Neither had I, but I guess they're actually pretty common. I didn't know much about mushrooms or have much interest in them before getting this photo, but they've become something I actively look out for in forests and on nature trails and whatnot. I definitely recommend you try photographing them sometime and doing some research to see what they are, it's actually quite fun!

I like seeing mushrooms, but I rarely do around here. I live in the city.
I don't know enough about them to go eating them, so I certainly wouldn't trust the ones around here.

I don't get many in my neighborhood since it's all mostly cornfields and not a lot of fallen timber, but there's a nature trail a couple of miles from my house and there's usually an abundance of them of all different varieties at this time of the year. All it takes is a nice wooded area with a lot of leaf cover and some fallen trees and you'd be shocked at how many you can find. I leave the picking to people who are familiar with their edibility. I just take pictures of them.
