Description
Done for an ImagineFX workshop in issue 102. The subject was creating unusual portraits.Available as an open edition print & as a limited edition giclee .
Painted in Photoshop CS4 + Painter 8.

Awesome! I love the monochromatic tones of your picture and the vampirish look of Carmilla. Her eyes are so hypnotising between thoses bats, it's like she stopped the time for a moment. Nice picture!

Bats are the cutest! Ever since I read the Silverwing series by Kenneth Oppel, I've looked at them in a totally different light.
The colours are so unusual for bats as a subject, I love that

Bats are cute. They have that odd beauty to them. Its probably just people's superstition that got them scared of bats and the fact that some can carry rabies. Other than that, they're adorable in their own mystifying way.
Wasn't Carmilla a book of a female vampire?

Surrounding a pretty portrait with bats, that's great! I love how the bats are candy pink... and I like how the whole picture is basically the same colour. And the way you weren't afraid to cover her face with bats! And I especially love the disembodied wings in front and how some of the bats have motion blur.
The woman looks so wise and intense. This picture really caught my attention.
