Did I mispell a word? I never heard of digamagig... maybe I meant digi-magic. It is digital darkroom. I simply layered two images.

oh "daguerrotype". It is one of the earliest photo processes in exisitence. They are not done now (or very very rarely anyway) because the process was toxic. You can still buy them in vintage shops and antique shops. They are metal and have interesting color sheen. The one I scanned to layer with the other image on this was almost empty . . . the person's photograph was very very light ....so on a scan it didn't even show up. So there you go I wish I could do one but toxic mercury is not good for the body.

Oldfashioned processes and ballerina. Everything have a little french infulence, french 'schmeck' as Germans will say. This is ©2007 *MYvonne and I feel like I'm traveling in time.

Me too. I always wanted to dance but didn't have the opportunity to do anything like ballet.

Thanks. I'm happy about that. I need to do a lot more and need some more of the things to scan for layering. But it's cool.

It's very different! How did you get the idea?

myrnajacobs In reply to Faylinn [2007-01-31 23:56:15 +0000 UTC]

I happen to find an old daguerrotype in a vintage/antique store. There was no image on it but it looked like there had been one. I scanned it and layered it because I am very interested in old processes of photography. I am very schooled in photography and do know about the old ways but just use digital mostly now. I thought it might be interesting to combine an old image with a new photo I'd done. The Nike of Samothrace was taken at the Louvre a couple of years ago. They allow photos in the Louvre...amazingly. The one of the dancer is a one of a series I did for my grand daughter. I needed something new to do with the ones she didn't want. Mostly I just love the look of old photos and there are so many people who do straight photography better than I do!

Faylinn In reply to myrnajacobs [2007-02-01 00:13:50 +0000 UTC]

It's amazing how much work you put into this. Did you ever discover what image originally was on the daguerrotype, or was it lost?
What I like most about old pictures, was how much effort went into every single one of them. A hundred years ago it was so much more complicated to take a picture, so often a lot more thought went into it. Nowadays it's a little too easy sometimes, and I find myself taking 10 pictures instead of one, but without concentrating. But with your pictures it feels like a lot of thought went into them, and tell a story with every single one. That's lovely!

You can kind of see a slight image of a man on the copper base. Yes, the complexity of those old analog photos makes me precious!
