Description Here's a Samus I've been noodling since Metroid Prime 3 came out. Last night I found the drawing, erased most of it, and slopped in a bunch of hacky repairs. Originally I'd hoped to make a clean illustration out of this, but recently found that its more effective for me to just rough it all in, communicate what's in my head, and move on. I do know the chozo suit pretty well, being a 2D Metroid nut, but didn't bother to make it exactly the same. Really, I just wanted to get an idea of the feisty blonde bombshell hiding in that suit, and get her blood boiling a bit, since I feel that she's lacking some personality lately. In the good old days of Super Metroid or NES, if she got out of the suit it was time for black bikinis, or sexy death. Now she just skips around with her whip and blue body suit. I want my "Ripley" inspired Samus back...Ripley taught us that when a job goes bad, strip down and open the airlock. And, scream at the monster... it helps.

Matt, I think Samus should be in Half Genie Hero as a DLC world.

Shantae could get armor called the "Power Armor" with the Ability to use the Morph Ball, Missiles, and Bombs.

OR

Shantae and Samus could fight Metroids. It could be like the Sonic Lost World DLC worlds.

Why don't you make more METROID art and present it to Nintendo? You and the rest of WayForward are on good terms with the company (you're all probably one of the only third-party company that supports their modern consoles and see potential in them). If they're impressed, they may even let Shantae be in SUPER SMASH BROS. or make a MARIO spin-off even.

I full-heartedly support your comment, sir! Ripley helped to make Samus likeable for me, even though I hadn't seen all of the series, I appreciate the "Original" Samus from the '90s, black bikini and all. Every day now, all you see is sexualized Zero Suit Samus, and even though it had it's appeal, it's getting old now. I suppose the orange shorts outfit she wore was a reference of some sort to the old design, but still, you don't even see the official alternate designs in fanart anymore.

So I usually just stick to Samus wearing her Power Suit, imagining she's wearing a bikini underneath. (because it would get pretty hot in there at some point, I imagine.)

I would imagine she would have some sort of cooling system within her suit that would be off, but would turn on in heated areas, like Magmoor Caverns. I would also imagine that her suit would have some sort of a heating system that would turn on when she would go into cold areas, like Sector 5 in Fusion. Most likely the Varia Suit controls all of this.

Kesoroda-MKB In reply to Commander-Ridley12 [2015-06-27 02:24:19 +0000 UTC]

That makes total sense, and it actually would support the idea of the Varia Suit, along with reinforced armor to withstand external temperatures. This would leave anyone at ease.

In a sense, the suit becomes like a Steel Double-Walled armor, not my drinking bottle.
I'm sure the cosmonauts have has this tech for decades. It's rather elementary!
(The initial thought made me think of the ending of [one of] the Alien Series movies, where Ripley strips down and flies to earth... (?)

I thought it would be interesting seeing Matt Bozon likes the Metroid, but I don't know how that would work, seeing WayForward never developed a game for Nintendo before. After all, WayForward mostly makes indie games. My biggest hope is that one day WayForward becomes a second-party developer for Nintendo. HAL Laboratory.Β

If that happens, not only could we very well see a new 2D Metroid game designed by Matt and his WayForward buddies, but Shantae could join the cast of Nintendo characters like Mario, Kirby, Link and so on. I could almost see her make a guest playable appearance in a New Super Mario Bros. game. I know that would probably never happen even IF Nintendo had the money to buy the company, but it's interesting to know the end result.

filipinowhiteboy In reply to holmesman [2014-01-21 22:15:43 +0000 UTC]

I personally am quite happy to see Wayforward remain independent. It means that they can continue to develop their games for other systems.Β  I can still see them making a Metroid game regardless. I mean, if Sakamoto will sign Team Ninja, another independent developer, than why not Wayforward?

holmesman In reply to filipinowhiteboy [2014-01-22 00:23:08 +0000 UTC]

It's okay if you believe WayForward should exist the way it is. I just thought having the company team up with Nintendo would be absolutely amazing. I guess it would be fair if Nintendo gave them special permission to develop for a non-Nintendo system on a rare occasion.

It would be nice....maybe Wayforward could breath some new life into Mario.....no offense if you like'em but I feel like the new Mario platformers are kinda stale

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

holmesman In reply to filipinowhiteboy [2014-01-22 01:13:30 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I am NOT offended; the games are indeed playable and at times fun, but I do feel as if Nintendo should take the "New" out of "New Super Mario Bros.". If they used it with the first game, that would be great since Mario hasn't been in 2D for quite a while during that time.Β

I can't list any major problems I had with the New Super Mario Bros. games, except for the soundtrack in New Super Mario Bros. 2; the game re-used all the tunes from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which is nice but I miss the tunes I heard in the original New Super Mario Bros, seeing this game is supposed to be the direct sequel. I would have preferred a different name (they were going to call this New Super Mario Bros. Gold, so that would have worked better for me).

Music aside, I think WayForward developing a New Super Mario Bros. game would be kinda interesting. What could they possibly do with the Italian plumber? Personally, I imagine the game using gameplay mechanics from Mighty Milky Way and Mighty Switch Force, as well as including Shantae as a playable character (probably the reason I would get the game myself). I would also imagine this as a New Super Luigi U-type of game with references to most of WayForward's titles.

haha! the last 2D Mario game I played was.....well, I doubt it counts but 3D world.....the thing I am noticing, is how much easier the new Mario games are....My favorite Mario game was Mario bros. 3 for GBA. Man, I played the hell outta that game and I am proud to boast that I never consulted a strategy guide for anything. Even now, it is still fun to plug in and play because the challenge is so good. I was really taken aback when I found how manyΒ items I was being given throughout the game. Extra lives were coming in like candy (or maybe not and it just felt like it). Power ups were definitely a plenty. and the overall level design...didn't challenge me very hard....I found myself dying simply when I screwed around too much. With Wayforward....yeah, they can be easy too but the level design and mechanics at play are just more interesting to me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

holmesman In reply to filipinowhiteboy [2014-01-22 19:41:24 +0000 UTC]

I also think with WayForward, level design is a winner, but I personally believe that the extra life system in some games needs to be re-worked. In the most recent games I've played, the Game Over screen is barely seen anymore because the level is littered with collectibles that just HAD to give you an extra life after collecting 100 of that item. New Super Mario Bros. 2 suffers from this the most, because it's coin themed. COIN themed, for crying out loud. Since you've played Mario, you know that 100 coins gives you another life. Do you know how many you're going to get after finally collecting 1,000,000 of them? You ain't never going to see that Game Over screen again. I really miss that. It makes the need for extra lives pointless and boring.Β

I prefer getting extra lives when I absolutely need it. It's not worth it when I have a truckload of extra lives that is the result of 100 of everything being littered throughout the level. It's not my fault those items are there. I rather have the life mechanic rebooted (like in Sonic Lost World, collecting 100 rings does NOT give you an extra life), or have no lives to waste at all.

hahaha yeah! that's what I'm talking about....But it wasn't just that for me. In Mario Bros 3 there is that one castle in the last stage which can only be completed if one figures out the secret platform combo.....Now I was a 90's baby. I never played the original Mario Bros.Β  So I didn't knowΒ that the secret floor combo. had been done before. I figured that out on my own......after about month and nearly a dozen game overs.....sure was rewarding figuring that out without a strategy guide.

If you go to the Shantae wiki, you'll discover that the first game in the series was in development since 1994! In the early stages, Shantae had brown hair, and was born without magic powers. However, as you play the game, you would have used a magic points systemΒ and gotten the ability to transform by defeating bosses. In fact, in addition to a monkey, an elephant, and a harpy, she would have also turned into a tiger.Β The other three were brought over to the final game and left the tiger behind. She would have also used her trademark dances to attack enemies directly instead of using them to turn into animals.

Maybe if Matt Bozon is willing to explain Shantae's origins, I would believe he could turn to the prototype of the first game and make it a prequel. We would learn why her hair is purple and how she earned the ability to transform into animals, including the tiger they never used.

Most of MY game ideas re-use abandoned beta elements that were never used or will be used. Kirby's Return to Dream Land was obviously one BIG beta element that had a lot of unused stuff that was re-used, but for the most part, most games had beta elements. I had the idea for a sequel to a very underrated Sonic game called Knuckles' Chaotix that re-used a LOT of beta elements from the early stages of Sonic X-Treme (since the game itself was never released). However, I decided to be more original and save those beta elements for another Sonic game, quite possibly Sonic the Hedgehog 5.

Though from this angle, the Arm Cannon looks crooked. And it's a tad small (as is the left gauntlet) as well.
