Concept for some US regular civil war soldiers.ΒA little teaser for the stuff about to come.
The main challenge here was to whip the old Genesis into shape.
For closeups I'll probably use the Gen3, but for formations they sure do the job well enough.
Daz3D Studio Iray Render, some postwork (denoising, minor filter application)

A wonderful scene which looks somehow peaceful even if it is a war scene. The lighting and the sinking sun give it such a calm atmosphere!

Anyway it's a pretty simple setup with only Genesis 1, the standard Iray sun-sky and a light SSS fog box.Β
Some of the poses come right from the set, I was astonished how nice those Gen 1 can look at a pinch.

Beyond a certain distance we usually only notice outlines/shapes and hues, so for anything further off, I guess I'll keep the Gen1. I'm already thrilled to have some real battle scenes, hope they turn out nice...

Well, why not. It's actually not really demanding on the gpu (mostly low poly and small textures) and the lighting is completely done out of the box DAZ Studio.

The detail is actually pretty low, since it's Genesis (1), that's why I used the light to cover it up a little

Well the light works very well... not only to cover up the lack of detail (so you say), but to set the mood of the render. It all comes together so well!Β
I suppose it's getting time for me to try a battle scene. I have to confess I'm a little intimidated by the thought, but if I can do it half as well as you it'll be an accomplishment.
