Description It's the 705th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn!

On the first day of the battle one of the most memorable single combats in medieval times occured. A young knight, Henry de Bohun, nephew to the Earl of Hereford challenged Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, in front of the assembling armies. Armed only with an axe and mounted on a smaller horse, the veteran Bruce still dispatched his opponent easily, cleaving his head. Later he complained about ruining a good axe. Even though it may have been a imprudent move, it surely helped to raise Scots morale in front of a seemingly overpowering enemy.

During the day the English vainly tried to bring their advantage in heavy cavalry and welsh archers to bear on the Scots. While Bruce held Gloucester and Hereford at bay, Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray stopped the attempt of the medium division under Clifford (an old enemy of Bruce) and Beaumont to move into their rear at St. Ninians with his Shiltroms. Overall the Scots had the better of the first day, but the English host was much larger and still in parts arriving on the field.

The image is not meant to be a realistic depiction of the events - rather modeled after old fashioned battle paintings with the intention of showing the main personae and events. I'm quite aware thatΒ Christina MacRuairie was not likely present on the battlefield, but hey, she deserves the place and the picture looks better for her

Scots: Robert Bruce, Edward Bruce, Douglas, Campbell, Angus Og, Christina, Moray
English: King Edward, Bohun, Hereford, Gloucester, Beaumont, Clifford, GrayΒ

Daz3D Iray Render, some PS postwork, 3 Main & 1 patch Render. Denoised with Declan Russels stand-alone denoiser. Both manual and automatic optimization of models and textures were used.

There are more about 50 individual Genesis3 models present and about 5 times the instances. Adding to that are a good hundred low res men-at-arms.

Well thank you very much!!! My brain just exploded when I saw this full sized and now I'm trying to find all the pieces from the floor and walls to put it back!!! (I'm sure there will be one part under the fridge I'll miss)Β
I can't even pretend I'd have the patience and skill to put this all together but I do know that it is a MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT! Not only is the whole scene incredible and spectacular, the amount of work you did on the heraldry etc is super impressive. Hundreds and hundreds of units, dust, mist, grass and sky and thunderous warcrys from the Scots... what an epic scene.. even your logo is cool.Β
I think by now you should have convinced everyone that Daz can be used for whatever you can imagine. Well done!!!

BTW I was looking for an English (or European) medieval footsoldiers outfit with a tunic and protective vest, chainmail or leather, gloves, that sort of thing, do you happen to know of anything which might fit that description?

Magnus-Strindboem In reply to Kibosh-1 [2019-07-08 00:02:41 +0000 UTC]

I sure do hope the piece under the fridge turns up allright.
But I like to do some promoting of DAZ, because as far as I can tell by now, a lot of other suites would have to struggle to manage and organzize this amount of different geometries, shaders and materials, too.

Anyway, unfortunately I've been struggling and frankensteining around that matter, too. But I'll send you the outfits I found useful via pm.

I found the bit under the fridge - had to fight a cockroach for it!! But I'm sure I'll be fineΒ Β Β
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled to find the outfits, I thought you of all people would know where to find any if they were out there. When you find time to send them that would be cool, thanks!

A whatever, I just post them here. Here are some sets I use(d).
Since they are targeted at Gen2 and Gen3 you can sometimes get them very cheap (especially with platinum) if you wait for a sale, down to like $ 2.
another reason to stick to those models. The older models profit from being less overdone, and the textures are generally easy to work upon.
All will work unisex well enough.

Basic foot infantry:
Dark Age Scale Armor 3D Figure Assets Deacon215
Viking for Genesis 2 Male(s) | 3D Models and 3D Software by Daz 3D

Knight outfits:
Knight Armor for Genesis 3 Female(s) | 3D Models and 3D Software by Daz 3D
The Templar Outfit | 3D Models and 3D Software by Daz 3D

Helms of History for Genesis 2 Male(s) | 3D Models and 3D Software by Daz 3D

The last needs some texturing to work well and has some flaws, but does ok for a long maille tunic.
Tunics and Maille Outfits for Genesis 3 Female(s) | 3D Models and 3D Software by Daz 3D

That's more or less all that I used except for one additional tabard and helmet, but those were a pain and I would not recommend them.
Shields and Weapons should not really be an issue, as they are in plentiful supply

Thank you, that's really useful - I still use Gen 2 and 3 mostly anyhow so they should work! I have some of them which I used in that last "River Raiders" scene and I put the others on my wishlist.Β Β

I knew your skills mastering this kind of epic sceneries.
But this one beats them all!
Incredibly great work!

I guess skill more or less amounts to stubbornness here, but apart from the constant Scots misbehaviour and English complaining it was pretty fun.
Also I think it proves that Daz can do some amazing stuff (and most of it out of the box) while using a relatively limited range of assets.

Well...art-work comes from art and from work

Nothing great happens without some effort.

And aside from that, I'm always impressed if someone makes DS do what it actually can do.
(which is a lot, as I know. It's just hidden well behind walls that most of us don't dare to pass )

Wonderful angle and so much movement here! (It is the whole picture to all the little shots you have posted, right? ) There is so much going on here, the two knights who are fighting against each other on their circling horses, the right army that starts to attack and the left army ready to defend themselves. This picture could be the start screen of a game like "Mount and Blade"! (If you don't know it, you can look at Google...your art fits so well into this universe!)

If I had to take only one game onto a lonely island, it would certainly be Mount and Blades (Warband), probably the best game in its genre(s) ever... I'm hyped up on Bannerlord more than any other game on the horizon... need I say more

You are right, this game is great! Even though the graphics are a little bit old, it is still fun to charge with your cavalry though the lines of your enemy....especially when you are totally outnumbered XD
Can't wait for Bannerlord, too! (My poor money, if this game is out XD)

Did you ever start you own faction in Warbands? You'll have your hands full, but it sure feels an achievement to stand up to the wrath of the other then

Yes, certainly I've still got some scenes of the battle in mind (it was a messy two days affair after all) but most of all I'll try and use the stuff I figured out here for the civil war series.
