Thank you so much! I've been using Photomatix to create HDR images, and I hate it! I've never liked HDR images made with photomatix because they don't even look like real photos but I didn't know how you and a few other photographers I watch did manual exposure blending

good tutorial..but unfortunatelly that's lovely shots which you make don't show the real nature of that views...that lovely colours etc...they are all like that thank to the computer programs... I am disappointed, I'm sorry... but I have to admit, that u r really good in making them better..

This is incredibly useful Hougaard, I haven't a clue how to do any of this.....it's actually the first time anyone's actually explained how the gradient tool works (I know I know...I could have found out for myself, but I am wayy to lazy).
Thanks for doing it, it's something I'll certainly have a go at if I ever go out shooting landscapes again (I can't even remember the last time....May...I think)

I've been using photomatix for years. Maybe it's time to switch to manual in photoshop.

I'm sure you've tried HDR software too, my question is what are the pros and cons of using software such as photomatix to process the three exposures as opposed to the manual blending method?

sh4rkbi5cuit In reply to ramblingidiot [2009-08-16 18:04:50 +0000 UTC]

Manual blending gives a much more natural-looking result. It's very easy to end up with a ridiculous image when you use programs like photomatix.

Great tutorial, very clear... I am sure many people have been waiting for this for a long time...however I still love more using my GND in the field. For my is part of the ritual of taking the camera, setting the tripod, adding the holder, and then the filters. I rather spend more minutes outside than in front of the computer :-p

hougaard In reply to NachoRomero [2009-08-16 18:52:08 +0000 UTC]

Definitely but in certain situations the gnd's just aren't an option
