At leased you'd come out smashing white and well pressed

Awesome power you've captured here Matt I'm always amazed at the wave action of the sea--I've never seen real waves on the ocean in real life. Only on a large lake once--they were about 2 feet high The times I have seen the ocean it was flat calm

Terrific!

growing up on the coast i sure do have an appreciation and respect for the ocean and it's power, i also never take it's beauty for granted, i do feel lucky growing up and living on the coast. Our waves range from probably 1 foot, to the biggest say 15ft (that is rare), the usual average would be 3-8 foot. This picture was taken on a day on the bigger end of average. Thanks again so much for your kind and encouraging words

Breathtaking. Those of us who are familiar with the ocean know how powerful it can beat land and this is a magnificent example of that strength.
The boat does - absolutely - make a difference on this photo. You got lucky, but you are also skilled. Your angles and compositions are extremely interesting and the light is perfect.
I am kind of speechless!

Well Matt...I've never been big on water scenes because it seemed everyone took pictures of ocean sunsets, storms and boats, blah, blah,...THAT IS until I found 'your' shots/images! You seem to have a knack for putting real life and drama into your images, and I love them and admire your ability to accomplish this. It is fairly easy to see that you love your land through your pictures and maybe that is why there is always so much life in them. This particular picture is a good example of your talent- all the movement and power of the ocean reaches out to the viewer. Wonderful work!!

it's not for the lace and silk that's for sure Mal

how did you go at katoomba?

go the MIGHTY KNIGHTY's !!!

FireflyPhotosAust In reply to barmat [2009-05-03 01:11:36 +0000 UTC]

Katooomba was pretty good but not much in the way of photos. The walk that I did was really just along the side of teh cliff and not many water features.

The Knights did very well!!

Sorry you didnt get too many shots, glad you didnt get lost

and the knights, did you hear about the storm and the lights and power going out at half-time?
then they got power back on but the refs said another 15mins for the lightning to clear, half-time took about 40mins
the strike that took the power out was huge, heard it at my place, luckily we didnt lose power though.
how ironic though ... energy australia stadium and the power went out ... would have been embarassing if they couldnt get it back on

I did read about the storm, did you manage to get any lightning shots?

Energy Australia Stadium certainly had a lot of power around it

I went out, had dinner and watched it at the pub with some friends, it would have been a great opportunity though hahaha funny how priorities change, i got a new toy and i'm sitting at the pub thinking i could be getting some awesome photos haha
i went for a fair walk along the beach and through a state park today and got some ok pics, well ok for me anyways
i drew inspriation from you and got some waterfall shots, you'll see soon

I seem to plan most things around photo opportunities as well now Matt

I look forward to seeing your waterfall shots. Have you ever been here [link] There are some great rock formations but I don't know exactly where they are.

Ive been all around there Mal but never been in to Bouddi, if you google it ive been to kilcare, box head, umina, ettalong, pearl beach, patonga, it's all a very beautful area, especially the last two beaches might be a great spot for us to catch up Mal.

I had a friend who lived in Booker Bay for a while, if you google map it ... it's only a stones throw from woy woy (that's if you're a good thrower) about 2-3klm ... it's the very southern end of the Cent Coast ... i'd say the turn off would only be 15mins from the hawksbury, then woy woy would be 10 mins off the freeway.

I'd be keen

I will do some more research and find out exactly where it is and maybe plan a trip up there on the 17th or 18th of this month.

Hahaha i love the title...awesome. Is this close to where you live? I wish i lived close to water...all we have are three pathetic rivers..lol...

I love this shot, and how the water looks. And i especially love the sail boat on the horizon...a bit of tranquility set against the chaotic nature of the water.

Aww thank you so much for your words I was so absorbed by getting pics of the waves and the water run off the pool i didnt even realise the boat was there till i put them up on my computer ... i was like boat too !!!!

I live in Newcastle, it's about 100miles/160klm north of Sydney on the coast this is the main town/city beach (we have about 50klm of beaches) it's about 10mins drive from my place, ive got a closer beach about 5 mins away

here's a map in my scrapbook if you'd like to look [link]

Cool...must be nice to live so close to the ocean like that...bu then again, if you've lived there all your life it isn't that big a deal...for me though, because i live in the prairies, i have no mountains or large bodies of water nearby...except for the two lakes but they're about two hours away north of the city. I don't have a car, so i hardly ever get out there.

Anyways, thanks!

I really do love where i live and very content, all my family are here so i havnt really ever wanted to go anywhere else
I try never to take it for granted, i definately dont take the coast for granted, i just love it

I'm in Canada, Winnipeg, Manitoba, right in the middle of flatland...lol...

I love Canada, it's a beautiful place, i'd be happy to live in this country forever, but eventually i'll move to an area of Canada where there are mountains and more water. Though i have to admit, the sunsets here can be pretty amazing, because of the long prairie views, as well as thunderstorms...
