Man--:mog: I gotta spend more time in your gallery This is amazing Matt
did you get your feet wet?
Looks like those waves would just come along and sweep ya right off there
Really nice composition--I like the intersecting lines of the (?) handrails. Well done!

my feet sure did get very wet that morning, and there's nothing worse than squishing around with wet shoes and socks haha oh well what us photographers put ourselves through chasing that 'erfect' shot
thanks so much for your kind comments

Your gallery was recommended to me by and I am so happy he did!
This shot is absolutely breathtaking. One can feel the power of the ocean, of the waves...and I am not surprised that your shoes went wet!
I love the light and how the golden sand reflects on the metal... things (I speak Spanish... I don't know how to call the metal bars)
Honest congratulations. This is awesome!

Thats a fine effort Matt, Great composition and the shutter speed is perfect. I like the golden light comming in and I tend to think its a light bright photo and not what I'd call overexposed. Well done

cheers, thanks heaps Dave, i was after bright light with the soft water, the biggest thing i'm happy about this photo was 1/3sec shutter speed hand held ... even with my shaky hands, mind you i did take a bucket load just to get the one good one

How do you do that?? The softness of the water is beautiful..

barmat In reply to Kaz-D [2009-07-21 05:45:46 +0000 UTC]
Thanks so much Katy, if you have moving water you go for longer or as long as you can shutter speed, so you either need a tripod or steedy hands. This one of mine the shutter speed is 1/3sec so because the water is moving it captures it moving and makes it look all soft and fluffy ... i hope that makes sense.
To get a slower shutter speed you can set your aperture to the smallest probably f22 or something, it depends on your lens and remember aperture is confusing because the higher the number the smaller the aperture. Anyway, set it to the highest and let the camera set the shutter speed, or try setting the shutter speed manually (anything from say 1/50sec will capture moving water) and let the camera set the aperture. I hope this helps

Nice shot, slightly overexposed but that could be fixed with a b&w conversion

This picture totally WOW's me!!! The color is incredible and the the ocean is spilling right out of the frame. So much swirling movement captured, in fact the entire ocean gives a feeling of power and churning. Fantastic!!!!!

so awesome that you play. I'll buy you a few drinks haha you'll have fun
Is cricket still very popular sport to play there?, i mean like among teenagers, i saw a show a few years back now saying it was always cricket cricket cricket, but now the younger sportsmen are playing more basketball because there is more money in it if you're good enough
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ArtemisChick In reply to barmat [2009-05-05 23:10:59 +0000 UTC]
0_o really? well, i don't think basketball is really that popular here. when it comes to sports among teens the competition is between football and cricket for the top spot football is my favorite sport, cricket comes in in the next 6 or something lol.
Its cricket, cricket, cricket still because of the W.I. team and their ranking, which i believe is high, and our teenage national teams do good too, its all heritage and all that so its definitely in our veins, basketball would only have more money than in cricket if u scholarship from here to some other country like america or something, its not widespread enough.
p.s. i'm wondering, what time is it in Australia right now? its 7:10pm here

since i'm such a football critic, i can't seem to bring myself to love our football team as much as i appreciate our cricket team lol
+ That's so cool that yall r already at Wednesday lol, that time tomoro i'll be at school, excited for the barca vs chelsea match @2:30pm

that's lovely! how do you get the frames? I've been trying on photoshop and it's really difficult to get them to the size I want!!
I'm not sure if my photo's would benefit from frames though or if I should just leave them as they are.

aww thanks Milly, i use Gimp mostly and i use a script function in gimp to do them ... i do have photoshop though so i'll take a look and see if there is a similar way of doing it and let you know
Gimp is a free program and it's really good, its similar to photoshop, if you'd like the details i can give you a link to download it and a link to some really good tutorial vids, let me know its no bother
