Description
Bad title I know....I've been wanting to do a mermaid for quite a while and all my attempts at a mermaid through traditional art failed (except for the tail which actually looked pretty good) So I thought I would try a manipulation.. and voila! Here she is! I tried sooo many different ways of adding scales (brushes, textures, drawn) but none of them looked right so she will just be a smooth tailed mermaid!! I also wanted to repaint the hair and make it more flowy and breezy looking but with I couldn't get the color looking as good as the original so I just left it!
The lovely mermaid is from *Lisajen-stock 's Mermaid packs
The background is from ~Apri1 [link]
The starfish came from here: [link]
I used this picture by ~Exor-stock to give the water more flair!
Some brushes by *michmellow and ~Falln-Brushes
The added clouds are from my own photos.
Made in Adobe Photoshop CS2 about 15 layers total. Time taken: too many hours because I couldn't make up my mind!

Hmmm I the sky and the water look beautiful, but to me, the mermaid just looks too fake. The tail, especially, looks a bit strange - maybe work on that next time. I love the sky though Beautiful

I know it looks fake now.. I just don't have the talent to fix it like I want to..
Thanks for taking a look at it though and taking time to comment!

Well, your choice of scenery is absolutely beautiful, but she and her starfish just don't blend into the rest of the photo. Her tail doesn't look like it's really apart of her. The tail could use a sheen to show details like muscle and if you wanted, scales. I think the main issue is that her tail looks more like her legs are wrapped up, try a different approach on the unique anatomy that the tail possesses. You can do it, because I can see that you're on the right track so far.

I will try and work on her tail in the future. Thank you for taking the time to critique!

No problem, although I was worried that my critique would have little value, seeing as how I know nothing about photo manipulation.

It doesn't really matter what someone knows when they look at a picture/drawing etc. it's what they feel....
