Description
Dream5' x 8' panel cotton transfer
2007
A very long process this was, and not until today had I come up with something to describe it.
I think I'm slowly waking up, but can never be too sure when you've been dreaming for so long.
It's very naive, but it's also very true.

To live by the leave of others is to dream.
To deny is to dream.
To fear is a deep slumber
The world slowly, dreams
I slowly, awaken.

This image is really intriguing. So much of the scene is indistinct giving it a very dreamlike feel, as you've described. The splash of red and the bit of water like droplets almost give the impression of looking out onto a dreamscape through a window after a short rain.

I had to think a bit about that dream thing. I mean one of the most precious things a person has are dreams and they provide especially for artist a ressource of inspiration. But that's this reflective, vivid dream. The dream I think you are talking about is more like some kind lethargy. Moving through life, flying through the days and letting the events flow by like in a dream where you are not able to react. This dream the artist is not allowed to dream, he has to stay in touch with the "real" world, be consciously aware of it. Not an easy job, it requires a lot of effort and it's not sure whether it's rewarding in the end but that's not the question.

I know in Japanese and Chinese, we have ways to describe the difference, but in English/Russian/French that I know, there is no real comparison. Just "dream"

That's interesting. I mean if it would be important to those later languages they would've invented a word, but apperently it isn't

This reminds of an album cover of a CD i've got lying around back home, and I've always loved the tones of it, you've done the same effect here, great stuff

EIGHT FEET TALL!?!?
I love how there's a tiny drop of focussed reality on the left...as if the dream figure is still so far from the real world. Lost in the dream.

it really looks like a dream, where nothing is so clear but it can mean so many things

Looking at it, the image feels mysterious and a little confusing, but the red in it gives another element that changes it somehow, I guess. I'm not very good at describing how I interpret it, but I think the image is awesome. I can actually relate this to how my dreams feel.

Glad to hear it, thanks for commenting.
I am equally bad at describing things like it.

Love it, it's really interesting and definitely makes you think!
I love surreal and abstract photography, it's so thought provoking - a nice contrast to some of the aesthetically gorgeous art that is on dA.

I like how pretty much all your stuff looks in the thumbnail like 'dude why the fuck are you posting that film negative you dropped in a puddle and stepped on' but then it's really like 'wow that's actually pretty deep.'

The combination of textures and colors reminds me of an old movie or finding a book of poetry you'd thought you'd lost.
Brilliant work, sir.

I can't honestly remember, though I know since 2004 it's a recurring premise.
