Description Dream
5' x 8' panel cotton transfer
2007

A very long process this was, and not until today had I come up with something to describe it.

I think I'm slowly waking up, but can never be too sure when you've been dreaming for so long.

It's very naive, but it's also very true.

,

To live by the leave of others is to dream.
To deny is to dream.
To fear is a deep slumber

The world slowly, dreams

I slowly, awaken.

Badlands; there's a sense of much endured in this image and a kind of dread in broad daylight; disquieting, and eerily beautiful...

This is one of the most bad assed images I've seen in a while. As an abstract lover- and appreciator of photography, I'm blown away! and it's SOOOO BIG!

Would love to see it in real life. (THE IMAGE!)

I had the big sheet, and if I would have cut it the cotton would fray and get all fucked, so I just printed it on the whole sheet instead of the smaller cut out I was going to make.

Im curious, what was the process like? Very intriguing images, the softness of the whole thing works well with the tones and dark shadows.

It's pretty much the same principal of transferring an image on a t-shirt, though I used dye oils, on a thin membrane with a "negative" of sorts, meaning the image was reversed as I basically just pressed it to the cotton.

ThomasFaust In reply to zerocomplex [2009-02-27 04:59:48 +0000 UTC]

and what is the image that you're using to transfer? is it a print, or an enlarged negative, or a polaroid noeg?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zerocomplex In reply to ThomasFaust [2009-02-27 05:16:30 +0000 UTC]

Was a dyed print, enlarged then placed over the sheet, and heated with some heat guns. Same principal as any simple Polaroid transfer, just larger scale and with different chemicals... they just have to be able to be transferred or bled through.

a size like that, ambitious! hardly see anyone these days doing serious alt process work like that. I have a enough fun figuring out how to make c-printing hard for myself. Hardly get to any transfers or platinum prints these days though

I see you, or a presence of you, very bright and prominent against the sleepwalking figures in the din, both elements distancing further and further as colour bleeds itself like a waking rainbow
