Description
Series: Attack on Titan----
I recently made my Attack on Titan boots for my Hanji cosplay for Aki Con,
and I had a few people ask me how I made them,
so here is a little tutorial!
This is my first time making one,
and it took 3 hours to put together X'D
My gawd!
So much more respect for people that make these OTL
---
I am FAR FROM AN EXPERT
and this is just one of many ways you can make these boots.
But hopefully it will be of some help to people ^^
---
S/N: If there is something I've made that you would like me to do a tutorial on let me know.
I can't do a full costume tutorial because it would be to hard and long to explain,
but if there is a part of a costume or sewing/building technique I will try my best!
---------------------------------
EDIT
Because I've been getting some repeating questions,
I'll post a mini FAQ..
How much fabric did you use?
I bought 1m and had almost half of it left over,
but this depends on the width of your fabric, so picture 4 boots laying down ^^'
What does the bottom look like?/Does the heel stick out?
Yes, the heel sticks out and the bottom of the cover. I use heel boots for this reason since it keeps the boot cover from twisting and shifting while you walk.
Also if your a clutz like myself, then the extra traction is awesome!
Can I use flats/bare feet/shorter boots
I used tall boots because...
- they are easy to trace (tracing your leg is a pain in the ass)
- They protect your feet
- They give the boot covers a strong stiff surface to rest ageist
Β - and you will not see any shoe lines or pant bunchies
But in the end you can do whatever you want, this is a guide line using methods I have tested and that have worked for me.

Do you just go very slowly when topstitching over the curves at the toe and ankle?Β Those are the only parts proving difficult for me.......for now lol.

I pull the fabric horizontally while stitching to get rid of some of the excess fabric so its easier to sew. You might also want to do 1cm intervals, put the needle in the fabric to mark your place, lift the foot and readjust the fabric if its giving you trouble ^^

Umm, I have a question? I'm going fabric shopping soon (like in a few hours soon) and I was wondering about how much fabric would you use for this?

I used about 2/3 of a meter.
So if you buy 1 meter (or yard if your in the States) it will be more than enough.

You can buy leather needles for your machine,
but I honestly just used a thick needle, I believe it was an '80'.

You cannot believe how excited I was to see this. I can not afford over the knee boots and wanted to make the boot covers, but it's been so difficult to find any tutorial that has really good results. This boot cover tutorial is the best I've seen and I'm glad because I've so tired of looking. So for that, thank you!! X3

I have a question about it though, specifically the boot cords. What purpose do they serve?

Valdrein In reply to zeldagalz [2013-10-07 14:24:02 +0000 UTC]
The boots cords are on the boots from Attack on Titan.
And I don't believe they have any purpose besides being pretty, haha!

What sewing machine did you use? Could you do it with a normal household machine?

Valdrein In reply to Dinos-Like-Flowers [2013-10-06 17:22:30 +0000 UTC]
Mine is just a household machine, a Janome.
The only thing you need is a roller foot,
if you go to a fabric or sewing machine shop and tell them your machine's name a model that should one.
