Description
WELL FINALLY. I managed to finish and upload this already. The only thing which kept me from doing it sooner is that I wanted to include that skirt thing around the hips in it too, but I decided against it, cause I can't figure it out yet.I decided to start with the bottom part, because I like bottoms. ;D
...
Justkidding, omg. >_>
Ignore that, I don't know how to make jokes.
Alas, Part II and Part III will come up soon, sooner than this one, I hope.
I also hope it's not too hard to follow, I confused myself at some point. Good luck!

You're so very welcome!
It also really helps how you explain how to make a sewn on harness that is attachedΒ to the costume. Those big expensive harnesses are needlessly complicated and ridiculous looking
This is my first cosplay and I am really, really excited. I've loved AoT/SnK for a while now. I still need to get caught up with the manga tho.

Thanks for sharing - this is so helpful! I've been trying to figure out how the leg straps were done here (www.mangauk.com/post.php?p=cos⦠) and now it doesn't look as daunting as I initially thought!

I'm having a lot of trouble holding up the thigh belts, any advice on that except for sewing or glueing them to the pants?
π: 0 β©: 1
neptunyan In reply to Locosplay [2014-11-07 09:56:21 +0000 UTC]
You could sew them directly to the pants, but not completely. Just on either side of your legs a little bit, and they'll stay.

Definitely want to try this out! Just wondering; about how much did you spend on the materials?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
neptunyan In reply to alison145 [2014-09-06 08:16:51 +0000 UTC]
Around 40 RON (Romanian currency), on the fabric + accesories for the whole harness, which was about 1,5 m of synthetic leather and 5 buckles + two small pieces of thicker synthetic leather which I used from another costume's leftovers, which wouldn't cost more than 2 RON. That's about 12-13 USA dollars, and you'll still have some leftovers from the synthetic leather to use for other costumes.
I can't remember the exact sum of money I paid for everything, but I estimated the highest possible price. It can easily be cheaper than 12 dollars.

Too bad you can't adjust this to make it into a feasible harness that supports weight. Great job though. It looks very convincing. Definitely trying this out.

neptunyan In reply to J-Cookie [2014-08-11 12:19:27 +0000 UTC]
Maybe if you use a stronger fabric and a sewing machine, you can make it in such a way that it will support weight too. You can try it out and see.
But I personally would not recommend trying any of those stunts in the show, however, unless you are a professional acrobat.

A friend of mine told me they're between 50-100 dollars? I think making them yourself won't cost more than 5-7 $,10 $ at the most ( at least judging by fabric prices over here ). However, it'll still make a difference making them yourself, both financially and having that great feeling of wearing your own home made costume.

Holy man! This was a GREAT tutorial! So far the best I've seen! I'll definitely be using this for my upcoming hanji cosplay. Thanks so much for the color coordinating btw! Made it so much easier to understand. I'm not sure if I'll use the foot straps to attach to the bottom, but I guess I don't know how else to keep them from rising up... But I feel like the pressure on my feet like that would give me a headache. I can't even handle wearing flats without getting a headache. lol
π: 0 β©: 1
neptunyan In reply to DawnStarLightning [2014-08-11 05:30:41 +0000 UTC]
Oh, don't worry, you barely feel the elastic on your feet. Contrary to how it looks, it's incredibly comfortable, as long as you cut the elastic long enough for it to just hold the straps down without putting pressure on your feet. Try it on after you're done making it, and if it seems too tight, you can always add more elastic until you feel comfy.
But if it still doesn't work, you can sew the bottom ends of the straps directly to the pants. The boots will cover them anyway, so it won't be noticeable.
Good luck, and thank you for your kind words!

Questiooons!! Did you use a sowing machine or did you hand-stitch?
also, would it make a difference if instead of finishing off at the feet, you made it to end at your ankles? (because boots would cover it)
lovely tutorial!!
π: 0 β©: 1
neptunyan In reply to spl3nd0ra [2014-08-10 20:51:25 +0000 UTC]
I sewed by hand, because I don't have a sewing machine, but even if you sew by hand they'll be strong and look pretty nice.
Oh, and the reason why I added the elastic at the feet was for the whole harness system to be kept in a vertical, fixed position. If you can somewhat make it stay like that and finish it at the ankle, then it'll be alright. You can experiment and look for other posibilities too.
And thank you! I'm happy you like the tutorial.
