Love a higher-res version of this (my desktop is 5760x1200). Found original Sombrero Galaxy images that are high enough res but I don't seem to be able to duplicate the colourisation correctly... :/

That would be Galaxy M104, an unbarred spiral galaxy in the Virgo constellation, commonly known as the Sombrero Galaxy. XD Life time astronomer since I was 8. **grins**

A few weeks ago I also played around with that galaxy. I tried to color it green but it just wouldnt look good. This color is perfect!

Perfect. I have just moved to a dual screen set-up on my Mac and needed a desktop pattern to span both screens. This is spot on, the colours and theme both match the default OS X Snow Leopard beautifully. But, this is image is way better. My sincere admiration and thanks to whom ever created this masterpiece of nature.

One picture is worth a 1000 words. There are amazing details in M104 (The Sombrero Galaxy) that are very prominent in this photograph! This galaxy is always the first one I observe in Virgo. Even though Virgo holds a large cluster of beautiful galaxies, this one is my favorite!
