Description
Owl about that? I'd hoped to get these posted a week or two ago for Easter, but that didn't eggzactly go to plan.Five wooden eggs, decorated with pyrography owls of various kinds as a commission from a friend, as well as a test concept for one of the things I could stock if I start doing craft fairs. They're slightly flattened on the bigger end and stand up on their own reasonably well. They're about 6cm tall. I rather like them!

Woah, these are so cool!Β Β
Owls are great! and this is such an interesting idea! I love them!
I think these would be great at a craft fair!
Owl the punny puns... (I swear I'm terrible at these.)

These are gorgeous! You should be very proud. If I saw these at a craft fair, I would totally buy one.

Awesome, thanks!
It's really helpful to get that sort of feedback, I think it's safe to say I'll be making more of these!

This is a really, really cool idea. Nice execution, too: they look almost photorealistic! I think the one all the way on the left is my favourite.

Thanks! That's my favourite too - and typically the one I did first. So much for getting better with practice, right?
I'll definitely be doing some sort of eggs if I start stocking up for craft fairs. They're nice and tactile, and also sit well on shelves and the like. The only problem - especially with these being the same size as chicken eggs - is that several people mistook them for real eggs!

Several?! I hope they weren't looking at them very closely!
My mother used to use a wooden egg to keep layers of clothing apart when sewing, so they could have a practical application too.

huh, that's a new use on me. I had one as a kid for a toy kitchen - would never have thought of using for sewing!
Well, the first couple of people were looking at them in dim lighting, when I was just sketching the owls before burning them, so I guess they can be forgiven. The other was looking at the finished product over somebody's shoulder and remarked that it seemed a shame to have to crack them!

I suppose it would be a shame if you had to...

You are most welcome!!!! I love Owls, all species of them, and so I cant say I love any particular egg over any other, I really would want them all

Thankies!
There's something about owls, they do seem to be far more popular than just about any other bird! I'll certainly be making some more like these in the hope I can get a craft stall somewhere either this summer or maybe in time for Christmas.
Though I think if I do another round of these, I might go for penguins next...

Penguins!!!!! The other popular bird... reminds me of Turkeys and Chickens and the debates over which tastes better. (I like both but prefer Turkey.. Ironically with Chicken gravy)
One must wonder... do other birds get jealous of all the loving attention Owls and Penguins get??? Do they plot for the demise of these two species????? One might picture an Eagle with a voice like Al Capone saying "I want those Owls dead! I want to see their nests shredded, the trees they live in burned!!! And then I want to dance on the ashes!!! Make it happen!!!!"
AAAAHHHHH How, and WHY,Β the hell did I think all of THAT up??????????? O K move along, nothing to see here...... Whistles as he walks away.
I really do love Owls.... Almost cried when Hedwig died in the Last Harry Potter book. And yet I read somewhere that while we always seem to think of Owls as being smart and wise, they say in real life they are rather dumb birds.
