all the gore i do is very fantasy-based with the colors and sparkles and such, but studying anatomy really helps!!! knowing what goes where, the differences between the large and small intestines so it's not just a belly filled with same-sized noodles, etc. all helps!!
and textures really help out too! whether you want to perceive something as slimy, gummy, shiny, etc. all helps make what's inside (or on the outside) believable! don't be afraid to experiment, it's all for fun!
