Description An adorable New Zealand fur seal, or kekeno, just north of Kaikoura, sunning on the rocks. I would like to dedicate this picture to the fantastic folks who sent me Valentine's this year, the lovely Fandom-OC-Queen , and my bestest pal hlwar .

Oh my goodness, lookit that precious face with all them whiskers! His face is adorable, and I always loved seals; the eyes are so expressive, yet somehow look like a teddy bear doll's beads. What a darling baby!! Gorgeous shot, too, the way he's cramming his neck to look at you, all like, "What?" XD The picture is so clear I could reach out and pet the screen~ (I never realized you guys had many seals there in New Zealand. Are they friendly and free-roaming? It must be awesome to just walk along the shore and hang out with 'em.)

Aww wow, thank you for the dedication! That's so sweet of you, and of course you're very welcome for the Valentines!! I hope you and Owen managed to celebrate with a little something special?

Seals are cute. Well, some of them are. This one, anyway. We were lucky. We stopped at the top of the hill around the corner from the beach, and there were a bunch of seals sunning on the volcanic rocks. We have quite a few fur seals here, around the coast, and elephant seals, too. There is a colony of the fur seals just down the coast, in Kaikoura. They're pretty dangerous if you get too close to them, and they stink to high heaven, even from a distance. I'm guessing he probably was like, "What?", at the silly caterwauling monkeys up on the cliff top trying to get him to look up at them, but he was such a showoff when he did look, he was all smoochy with the rock he was lying on, and happy to pose for the camera.

You're very welcome for the dedication. I almost missed the whole Valentine's thing... I completely forgot about the whole thing until we had already left. We spent the weekend away for work, which was a nice coincidence. So we had a couple of nice days away, (missed the earthquakes, which popped up in our absence,) and saw some more of the pretty country. So it was fun.
