Description
This is an illustration i did based upon the Games Workshop's specialist game 'MORDHEIM'. The game is set in the Fantasy world of Warhammer, where a deadly twin-tailed comet strikes one of the largest cities of the human Empire: Mordheim. Thus, the city is devastated, but tales begin to arise surrounding the scattered remains of the comet (called vaguely wyrdstone by treasure hunters) as having great powers and being highly valuable. Hence, many foul and wretched creatures still inhabit the city while ruthless pirates travel to it searching for the precious mineral. As usual, this image was done using markers, watercoloured pencils, oil pastels and acrylic for effects. I'm particularly fond of the stone effect and of the 'dead eye' in the main character's face (which, coincidentally, is made of the same wyrdstone).
I hope you enjoy it!

Memorable, clear and rather striking style. Good scene!

I really like this work, I think you did a wonderful job with the angle and coloring.
I'm wondering, though, is that a chaos dude, or just a really evil looking mercenary? And I always thought Wyrdstone was a greenish blue. lol.
I've been playing Mordheim for a while now, and it's one of my favorite GW games. I personally play Possessed, Slaanesh themed. My Possessed are Daemonette heralds, and my beastmen are Daemonettes. lol.
In a city full of dark and gritty, it's nice to have some pink. XD

Thank you very very much, m'lady! As a matter of fact, I've been sort of wandering back into Mordheim myself these days and your comment has rekindled even more the desire of Wyrdstone in me!
I never really knew what colour the stone was, though i know it's been mentioned as being jet black, though hued if you look closely at it. I always sort of imagined it with all sorts of different colours overlapping but none of them known to human eye... so, since it's impossible to colour something we can't fathom, I went for black
He IS a very evil looking mercenary named Alejandro Cortés. I have an interesting backdrop for him that I reckon I should develop further.
And pink Daemonettes are always a MUST in any game, heh, heh...
Cheers again!

What army do you play, by the way? Skaven? Rat ninjas for the win!

There is something about man-sized Ninja-rats that is just so alluring. So alluring, I'm planning on getting an Eshin army at some point.
This picture rocks: Mordheim is seriously underrated. It has the nice pace of standard Warhammer combined with the story-telling and RPing of Warhammer RPG.

You're absolutely right about Mordheim, mate. It really is one of the most wonderful games GW has produced so far, in my humble opinion. It is actually the game that got me interested in miniatures and wargames in the first place! I think it's due time i do another illustration based upon its characters...
Thanks for the compliments and the !

No problemo.
My general problem with wargames like WHFB and Confrontation is that they get bigger and bigger until it is hard to start something in it without having an absolute and utterly perfect grasp of the rules and the world. Conf. started as skirmish, similar to Mordheim, but has now grown into something resembling Warhammer Fantasy battles. Not good in my book.
I like the smaller games: less minis but more depth FTW!

Indeed, traditional art is quite underrated these days (though it is comparatively much more harder to achieve than digital), but there are some people who're willing to get their hands dirty and paint...

Very cool Aerion, suitably 'grubby' for the setting without having the characters getting bogged down in the grittiness. I too think the wyrdstone looks really well done, a very good depiction of the way it is described. the textures on some of the surfaces were really impressive too, that rats bandages look almost greasy...eww (but in a good way )

Thank you very much, mate! It's good to see i've achieved what i set out to do in terms of the different textures you see there. Working a limited palette tends to have a huge effect on textures since they are mostly what will separate different areas of the same grays sometimes.

JOkes aside, it's great to know that an image of mine could've started you guys playing a bit of Fantasy. As i said, i was a bit tired of Warhammer 40,000 and wanted a breath of freash air (as fresh as it can get on Mordheim ).
And you're a Daemonette? You naughty, naughty girl...

Thank you for the compliments, Matthew! I'm specially fond of how good the stone turned out too. At first, i was scared by its description (since it was rather vague or practically not doable from an artistic point of view); but i managed to find a cool way of portraying it.
