Description PLEASE FULL VIEW, or view it here on tumblr!

I’ve always hated doing shoe and boot covers until my friend introduced me to this method. Turns out it’s not very well known how to do it! So I decided to take some photos while I did my most recent ones and make a tutorial for others to use. This tutorial can be used for socks, shoe covers, spats, custom boots, and anything else you can think of!

I’m only covering how to make the pattern, not how to sew it because I feel like that part is pretty straight forward.

Skill level required: beginner
Time: ~1hr
Materials:
-shoes
-saran wrap
- tape
-pen
-paper scissors
-ruler
-butcher paper
- a body
- a friend!(not required, but VERY helpful!)

I've been doing the whole "wrap your leg in fabric and, lol, good luck getting it straight & fitting properly." method that there are 10+ tutorials for out there, but this is WAY easier in my opinion!

This seems pretty straight forward. This will be very helpful for some of my costumes. As well as more comfortable since I can't find boots that don't start to hurt after a while.

Awesome tutorial! I've been scouring the internet for an easy and efficient way to make boot covers, since I've never attempted it before. This method reminds me of the way one would make a duct tape dummy. Excellent tip. This will save me a lot of time!

this will be soooo useful for a danny phantom cosplay I'm in the middle of making. Finding boots the right size and colour have been near impossible for a reasonable price.

Thank you for making this tutorial

I needed a pair of black boots with an orange stripe for my cosplay, and I was dreading going out and finding a pair that both fit and was decently priced. @_@ But using this will be a lot less painful. Thank you!

Hey just curious on this... Are these for permanent shoe covers or will the fabric slip over pre-existing shoes? I'm curious because I'm trying to find one where it slips over the shoe.

Awesome. Thank you. Just wanted to be sure because I have a potential base shoe but I don't want to glue the cover to the shoe permanently.

You are a genius! But what do you suggest for Rikku (ffx2)? Her normal boots are very loose... Just not as tight? I need to make a few pairs of shoes for cosplay.

I'm a total novice when it comes to stitching...do you put the shoe inside after you sticth it ?

Kimba616 In reply to Topaz-Princess95 [2013-12-11 21:49:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that is the point of using the shoe as a base. lol

ThatBlondePerson [2013-10-22 23:19:43 +0000 UTC]

I have a question as to how you manage to make the boots look seamless? Wouldn't there be long stitch seam down the front?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kimba616 In reply to ThatBlondePerson [2013-10-24 03:04:36 +0000 UTC]

yeah there's one down the front and the back. You can't make them look seamless because you need seams to put them together.

ThatBlondePerson In reply to Kimba616 [2013-10-24 23:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah oh well. But tip for others on the cutting out of the tape part, when standing the scissors seem to pinch the skin more, it's much more comfortable laying down with your leg outstretched.

Thanks! I tried this method while I was helping a friend to do a pair of boots for Vincent from FF. But I messed up something xD and the boots didn't were ok. Now I see I misunderstood another similar tutorial I found that day, and I didn't flattened correctly my mold. Your tuto is very clear, I'll have to give this technique a second try

I just used this technique to do my Raven and Starfire boots. It really makes it easy, especially if you have a complicated design going on. Thanks for sharing it with everyone. Also a little spray anti-antiperspirant or talcum powder helps the saran wrap from sticking.
