Of course it happens more often that I stumble upon your arts XD but today it came to be,
because of the PC gallery
The thumbnail of this little fellow just made me think of a chibi.
Big head, small body.
Could not really see understand what I was seeing tho and it looked rather deformed XD
The title, Jian Shi Jiaozi, well didn't ring a bell as I never ate those
And uhm yes they look rather scary to eat now I look closer XD
Now I've seen a lot of brothers and sisters of your alphabet family coming by.
So I know of course that the theme is macabre foods
This one fits very well with that I find.
The way you positioned it makes it seem like he is floating like some spirit.
Its semi-transparent 'skin' gives me even more of that idea.
The white outline makes me think a bit of a glow surrounding him.
But if you'd really like to make it glow I'd say make it a bit fuzzy and wider
and make the pink circle background a tad darker.
Also, there could be this indication of a shadow at the bottom,
making the hovering effect more clear and adding an indication of dimension.
I love the way how it's vegetably insides show through XD
In combination with this dumplings looks, it becomes rather horrific.
Not tasty at all although my first reaction is, ooo jummy!
I feel so betrayed haha XD
The texture looks very dumplingy.
Only thing I think you could add is maybe some more gloss of wetness.
As dumplings are mostly rather moist from being steamed right?
Would make it even ickier as well.
Love the hotsauce coloring its eyes! dripping out all firey!
I wouldn't mind it dripping out even a bit more, showing off its sauciness haha.
The only things that strikes me a bit off are the feet and hands.
They do not strike me as belonging to the creature really.
To 'normal' and maybe cartoony.
If they'd be replaced by some knotted stumps, them being more of some abstract limbs,
it makes more sense in my eyes
All with all well, I find myself not able to give many critiques about it
I like it very much.
I can only really share my impression and views with you.
Some little ideas you might like XD
This ghostly zombie dumpling is just adorable and horrifying at the same time

Even though I won't be very active on this group for a while I DO love it...I need some more time to design a new website for my work so I decided to cut a few things out temporarily.Β

A Jiang Shi is a type of Chinese vampire/undead/zombie...myth. The Jiaozi is the dumpling part of the name...You've never had one?!?!?! OMG go to a Chinese food place asap and get some! They are so delicious and the textures are so cool and they are adorable lol...Are you sure you haven't had one? They are called all different things...also in different countries ...and they look different sometimes, round, or pan fried etc...
The figure I made is actually three of them stacked on each other - his head is one, arms/shoulders an other and legs an other. Also the head one has a black detail at the top which isn't normally there but I put it to look like the hat that the Chinese zombies are usually shown wearing
I'm happy you picked up on the floating, see through skin and saucy eyes ;D - That would actually be cool to add some glowing ghostly-ness to him...thanks for the idea
I wasn't sure about this pink, you're right it need darkness...Oh yes shadow!

I see what you mean about the hands and feet...not sure how to approach it though hmm...For the french fries one I had to think for a bit about the head and it ended up being a ketchup cup 
Love the shadow idea...All the ideas were actually really cool and fitting, seriously thank you so much. I didn't know you liked this series so much

Makes sense hehe.
I haven't seen any at our chinese places ever either
Asked my mother yesterday and she didnt either.
Hence, our chinese is indonesian/chinese mostly and they fry everything XD
Probably not much authentic food there
Chinese spoons could work
Can't really think of many other things to use :S

Found this via ProjectComment Β and now I think I'll never be able to eat dumplings again without checking extra close to make sure they aren't going to eat me!
I love that little guy: he's cute and grotesque at the same time, and makes me think of food at a buffet that's been sitting out at least an hour too long. My eyes keep getting drawn to the leaf patterns (cilantro?) on his dumpling skin - it looks very much like patterns on a robe and I think that's just really clever on your part. Excellent work!

Jiaozi is Chinese for dumpling or potsticker...those little buns that have vegetables or meat stuffed inside and are either steamed, fried or boiled. So good!

It was fun painting the semi seethrough dough with the stuffing showing through...not sure if they use coriander leaf in these but I've seen them in spring rolls and it just looks so cool that Β I had to have them. It's like "mon". lol

I really like how it turned out! 
You can put almost anything into jiaozi, actually - that's why there are so many kinds out there. A lot of folks pair chicken meant with coriander as a stuffing for jiao zi. I am not sure why, but they seem to be pretty popular. So hey... you are actually right on!
