UPDATE: Second place winner for the "drawn to pain" contest by 'Live Action TV & Movie Art'! I can't even describe how happy I am and how honoured I feel! All entries were amazing, you should really check them out!

This is Arwen from the Lord of the Rings, drawn for the 'Drawn to Pain' contest being put on by 'Live Action TV & Movie Art' - [link] . Pain, why pain? Let's see... She is a half elf(therefore immortal) in love with Aragorn(=human) so they obviously can't be together. The world around them is falling apart because Sauron(the bad guy) is taking over. Everyone is fighting back and there is death and destruction everywhere. At some point of the story, Arwen's father convinces her to go to Valinor (elf land) and therefore abandon Aragon, otherwise she will lose her immortality. While traveling, heartbroken, she has a vision of her future son with Aragorn. The scene depicted in the drawing is just after she has that vision. For the sake of the story I have to say that she doesn't go to Valinor but decides to return and after a looooong journey (both literally and metaphorically) she marries Aragorn and they live happily ever after!

I had a lot of fun with this portrait, my favourite to do so far! (Although I have to admit Arwen's expression wasn't the easiest to draw...) First of all Liv Tyler (even when crying!) is a total beauty! Second... No hair this time, haha! I love making portraits but I dread the moment I have to draw the hair! So it was total pleasure this time. Of course I simplified some details but that's another story. The background is not digital at all. It is just my 8B pencil (WAS my 8B pencil, there is hardly any left...) It was a mistake to use such a pencil but when I realized how dark it would be, it was too late to correct!
