Description
Well, this is very different for me. I've never really submitted a piece like this before, but I see it works for other people, so I figured what the heck. Plus I hate it when people submit the same thing over and over again and never switch it up.I know its not a super close photo, but there was a canal in between me and this field so I couldn't get much closer.
Thanks in advance for any faves you may give me.

Thank you. I noticed it right away, but I have quite an obsession with these birds as well as herons and pelicans. Basically any large bird. Thank you so much.

You're welcome!
I don't get to see many birds like that here unfortunately but when we were away on Islay last weekend I managed to get some shots of a heron. Hopefully they'll be good enough to upload.

For the distance, it looks good, and there's nothing you can do about that. The only thing I question is the ISO...why 400? With the shutter speed so fast, you could just slow it down a bit and lower the ISO to 100-200 and get a lot less noise in the picture.
All that being said, which is just a suggestion/question and not a critique, you inspire me to get a few myself; I grew up with these birds, and they're EVERYWHERE in S. LA.

Well now you're making me come clean! I had just been shooting at a different place under very different conditions and I hadn't had time to change my settings. I just jumped out of the car and got the shot without checking my settings. I figured I better try for a shot before it flies away and I miss it. Total USER error.
Suggest & critique away. Thats the whole point of putting my photos here. So I can get input! I had never submitted anything like this before, so I feel like it should be scrutinized more than the stuff I'm comfortable with.

Ah, yeah. Since I shoot almost exclusively manual, I do that ALL the time. I understand completely. At least you still got a good shot! I've done that and forgot that I had changed the balance or shutter speed, then took a once in a lifetime shot and found that it was...crap. I HATE that. ^_^
