Description
Shelter, one of the best music created by Porter Robinson!Check out the music video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzQ6gR…
The animation was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. My goal as an animator!~
It was so sad tho, for Rin
I actually finished halfway 2 months ago, but unfortunately my laptop broke down and all my info has been lost. Luckily, I managed to get it back up again and broke again, but not before I managed to copy all those files into a storage usb
Tbh, I wasn't too happy with this piece. The grass looks weird and I might abused the lighting a bit...And the right side looks very empty as well, but oh well, had no time to do so.

just trying to clarify here... you aren't happy with this? Can I, perhaps, take it off your hands and never let anyone touch it because it's my precioussss.

Sorry, kinda let myself go there for a bit. For real tho, you did an excellent job. I have to say that the very reasons you stated for not feeling happy with it actually make it stand out to me. The grass looks drawn, not real, which in the case of Rin's virtual world, it was. And the "empty" right side simply makes the work feel incomplete, in the right way. She is all alone out there and she had gone literally thousands of days without human contact. The lighting shows both the warmth of a new star and the cold bleak emptiness of a barren world, effortlessly evoking the emotions expressed in the video, and bringing the feelings I had when I first watched it rushing straight back.
I was curious how you do your work, what programs and tools you prefer. I am a complete novice and haven't even begun computer drawing, but I would love to start and maybe reach my own unique style someday. I only doodle on pen and paper at the moment, but this kind of work always inspires me to try some new technique and to keep trying my own twists.
Anyways, I really enjoy this.

Thank you so much for the kind words! ALL of the pieces I did in my gallery, has been all painted in Photoshop CS6. However, Im slowly switching from photoshop to other programs, since as a digital artist, Im going into 3D Art, as well as Animation (Shelter really motivated me here. absolutely breathtaking).
Anyways, so nice to see someone starting digital art! Dont worry tho, I use to take the same path as well through paper then slowly getting used to it.
If your actually interested, here is my old deviantart account, which is completely composed of paper traditional art before I moved here for digital:

As you probs can see, it was really bad back then, but I guess everyone starts off that way xD. I recommend you to take stuff nice and slow and learn as much as you can everyday, such as shading value studies, anatomy, etc. Except I didnt do all this and wasted years procrasinating, which I deeply regret since im heading into art college next year and running out of time (yes, im in high school xD)
Anyways, for digital art, im currently using a Wacom Intuos Tablet rn. For starters, a cheap tablet does it. I got mines for 100 bucks but it goes a long way when you use it, since I have been using it for...3 years and its still in tip top shape.
Back then, I started off with SAI, a very simple art program designed for anime. Now, if your not looking for anime style and go into realistic, Photoshop is extrenely popular among professional artists but its just that photoshop can achieve both anime as well and can literally do EVERYTHING.
However, the downside is that Photoshop has a huge learning curve. And its better to start off as easy, since ur trying to get the mechanical program parts down, not actually being creative.
Idk how I managed to learn Photoshop really well...more of experimenting and youtube videos.
Now to digital art, when I started, I made a huge mistake of starting color first. Unless you already understand values perfectly, u dont need to this part. Generally, you want to start off with painting greyscale always. Doesnt matter what color you put on it later on because as long as you mastered values, the final product would always look good.
Another tip for a beginner, is to ALWAYS use hard round brushes, never soft. People usually abuse soft and not until they are actually experienced. Thats what I did as well before lol. You can blend with hard brushes, which is what I used 99% of the time in this shelter piece.
Oh god, sorry for the huge wall of text. Im the kind of person who just rants on and on about art, as my passion, if only I wasnt that bad....
Speaking of that, yeah, Im actually not too happy with this piece. Like how the grass doesnt look real disappoints me. I guess this piece was leaning a bit more into the anime style though.
To be honest, if you have looked at my othee art, i have a certain style I use. And I hate my style. Yes, hate. After seeing all the proffessional artists out there, it really bubbles me in a fit of jealousy seeing ppl so successful, and comparing my own art. Im trying so desperately hard to change my style rn, since Im into hyper rrealism but ends up disappointing me instead. Ah well..artist struggles. Im the kind of person who gets demotivated after seeing a really good piece of art.
Im gonna stop my rambling now. You can follow me for more future arts if you like, and i watched you as well, so if you have any questions you can ask me
I hope that helped in some way

Wow! Thanks for the info! I'm definitely going to follow you, and I'm going to be working toward posting stuff. Like I said, I literally just started thinking about doing this digital stuff, so all the info you said is really going to help me get started.
And don't worry about the style thing. If you're just starting art school, you have a ton of time to learn and grow. If this is pre-professional, you are sure to do great things!
Thanks again!
