Description HELP! Which version is better, this one in black & white or the color version I added to my gallery a few weeks ago? [link]

I kinda like the b&w version more . . . curious as to the collective wisdom of my fellow deviants!

From Patagonia, view of a "sun dog" halo over Mount Fitz Roy. To read more about my Patagonia adventures, follow the link . . . [link]

The black and white is much better than the colour, There's such power, mysteriousness and emotion here as to the colour

That is an amazing image, the very long exposure and the 360° halo make it a very unique piece of art!

I think those halo happens when there are ice particles in the air and sun goes through it...

I love b/w photography and this looks great in b/w, but I think I perfer the colour version.

I like this version over the colored one. For me, the color takes away some of the detail and a lot of the mood set by the sun dog. This is mystic, the other is red. Your photos are incredible. I also think that your photos would look more dramatic (if that is possible with some of them)if they either had no frame or a black frame.

Ooh, I don't know. When I looked at the colour version I thought, oh definitely colour, but then I looked back at the B & W and now I'm not so sure. I loved both of them. I would hate to have pick one or the other.

Let me first say both are equally amazing! To pick which one I like more is hard... I would have to say I like the B&W version better.

My vote goes for the B&W. I feel like the halo and the stream come across a lot stronger than in the color version.

I dunno, haha. When I viewed the color version I found myself saying, "oh cool", an when I viewed the B&W version I said, "WOW".

Now that's a hell of a decision. Wicked version. Think you could work it some more and get some pop out of those little rocks in the midground. Not that you need advice but i like to over do levels adjustments, mask them out, then slowly add them back in. Keep both versions as some people will go nuts over the b/w and visa versa

Thanks Ian, much appreciated coming from the professional that you are. I like your style of shooting, you convey surreality so well through your photography, that's part of why I picked up a camera to be able to express what is invisible to the naked eye. You do it wonderfully though, very impressive skill you have

My vote for B&W. I love the soft light color in the water in the color version but I think the red is to intense in the sky. I love the hallo in the B&W version.

I've gone forward and backward between those two versions and I have to say:
You notice the water and the snow much more in the bw version because they are so white in there and ring is white as well. And I think you made the overall image lighter so you see more details in those rocks. Which makes me focus on those rocks more than in the colour image. I focus more on the sky in the colour one than on the foreground.
Now, the coloured one looks much more erie, showing you how weird colours can be in nature.

Better? I think it depends on what you want your viewer to focus on.

Agree with the previous comments, B&W works way better, the color version feels a bit pushed in terms of saturation

black and white for me, i dont think the colour adds much (seems a little unnatural) and the rest of the image has little colour

black and white is way better in my opinion. The other doesnt look natural.
