HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME VENTURE DOWN NOSTALGIA LANE AND MAKE ME DRAW ANIMU SO CLOSE TO SERIOUS ART STUDENTS. ARGH!
Eh hm, so as the cleverly punned title indicates, this is a chart of all that is Bulma Briefs... Well, the things pertaining to her wardrobe at least.
Back in December (during the height of my DBZ abridged affliction) I was shocked that I could not find any good charts with all of Bulma's costumes from throughout her Dragon Ball-verse career. At this discovery (or lack thereof) it became clear what I must do:
Spend way too much of my life tracking down her outfits throughout the Dragon Ball series and make a somewhat coherent chronologic chart of them.
While growing up I was more of a Sailormoon/ Pokemon fan, but I still had a soft spot for the Dragon Ball saga. The original Dragon Ball was more my cup of tea than DBZ, but I fondly remember sitting in the visitors' center of my old apartment building to watch said show on the big screen telly anyways. One of the little things that always impressed me about both series (GT need not be mentioned for obvious reasons) was how the characters grew and changed (physically at least) throughout the series (something that American cartoons rarely demonstrate). And when it comes to this facet of the show, Bulma takes the cake.
While main characters like Goku and Krillin got maybe 1 or 2 costume changes a season, Bulma was the Padme of the show, changing every few episodes (not just clothes either- full on hair alterations too). In a way, this makes her one of the more realistic characters in the series, but at the same time it almost makes her seem absurd (especially when compared to fashionably stagnant characters like Vegeta and Piccolo). To me it seems like the designers originally wanted Bulma to be a fashion plate/sex symbol, but wound up using her to mock contemporary fashion trends in Japan at the time, especially when DBZ rolled around. Seriously, look at the "There's Something About Mary" hair in bottom left look, and the fro look to the right... I have a hard time not raising a brow of disbelief at them. Especially the fact that Bulma and Vegeta apparently hooked up when she was sporting the big perm look...
I digress though- this project was a good chance to experiment a little bit. Part of me wishes I had just submitted the traditional version I made back in December, but the other part is rather pleased with how this one looks. Also no, I did not make this on illustrator. Yes, I secretly like making my life more difficult than it needs to be. Also, I drew Vegeta on the original... Wondering if I should put him back in the tiny line up or not. Also, would you guys like more full body shots/ the tiny ones to be colored?
TL; DR- Bulma Brief's costume chart give or take a few looks. Enjoy. Also, a comment is worth a thousand faves~

This chart is definitely something to appreciate! As someone who has tried to find a handful of reference images for specific Bulma costumes, your artwork is the first thing I've stumbled upon that could help me out. I'm amazed that you took the time to research all of this. Really, that's an impressive amount of work in itself! The way you've charted it out is perfect. I love how you depicted all the outfits on the border in a chibi style. It's very fitting.
Overall, wonderful artwork!

Thank you so very much, and sorry for the late reply!
It was a tedious but fun process. And even after finishing this piece I am still finding new little outfits Bulma wore in dream sequences or one shot episodes. (I did forget the pink bikini/underwear from the Red Ribbon infiltration which happened over a few episodes, but alas. Bulma is too fashionable for her own good)

One day I will draw Bulma in every single one of her outfits she wears in the anime series. But for now, I will choose 7 of my favorite, each with a different Dragonball.
I've always loved this piece of yours. It's a great tribute and very helpful with her outfits.

That's very kind of you, but I somehow was able to find decent reference photos. Though I can't help but be surprised by how difficult it was!

I defintely was a fan of Bulma. I loved how she did change her style, and like you said, a lot of American cartoons lacked that. Always thought it was weird how characters would pretty much have a closet full of the same clothes....
Back to the the topic, its a cute idea you had to put together all of her outfits!

Thank you very much!
I'm glad that American Cartoons are starting to change up their character's looks more often. Adventure Time warms my heart because the girls change quite frequently. That takes dedication, my friend.

You're welcome!
Yeah I've noticed that a few shows like to change up costumes. As an comic artist myself I hate drawing them in the same stuff constantly. I love altering hair or clothes or both! Adventure Time really is one of the better cartoons out there

Somewhere around the Trunks saga.... I think they were trying to give her a big early 90s perm, but the end result is just a tad ridiculous
