Let me tell you a short story about old hands. About my hands. Well, not quite as old as the hands in your photograph. But ... recently I had a visit with my adult son ... and we were watching tv together ... and my hands were folded in my lap ... and I happened to notice the similarity of my hands to my own mother's hands. Thinking out loud, I said, "I've got my mother's hands." And my son turned toward me, and in the kindest most-loving voice, he said, "No, you've got my mother's hands." What a beautiful, heartfelt thing to say ... and he said it so spontaneously, so sincerely. And I felt more love in that moment than I had felt from anyone/anywhere in such a long time. It's something I will always have and will never forget.

I love every wrinkle on the skin, the finger nails, the hair and the closeness of the shot. Many times I think with age, we tend to back off a bit, whether we are reminded of our own mortality or just the unfairness of the aging process. But you bring us face to face with her, and it's hard to look away. I love the black and white choice, I don't think it would have been as striking if it were in color. Wonderful photo....I look forward to see what else you bring to the table!
