Would she be considered a doll were she made by plastic? Would she be considered a toy were she small and frail? And what makes one understand that she is a human being, flesh and pain, blood and tears?
Notice how both "doll" and "toy" are arguably sexual characterizations, almost exclusively connected with the female gender - falsely, in my opinion. I've always felt like they emanated the most peculiar form of hatred; a hidden hatred, a stark, toxic hatred, the kind one knows is there only when it is too late. They are words which describe domination, not congeniality or affection.
Here we have what is, at first glance, something too gray to be alive; something too bright to be natural; something too stiff to be breathing; something too extreme to be pleasant. And yet, as the thumbnail becomes a full image, I can see clearly: it is a human being, without doubt. A wrecked human being. A human being in pain. A human being as devastated as a raped doll or a broken toy.

While there is no immediate message in this photograph, it reveals a note of passion and sexuality when studied. I love the contrast of the blood-red lips with the sepia skin tone and background against the harsh black hair. It brings a focus point to the photograph. In my opinion, the only flaw are the free strands of hair crossing over the cheeks and lips. With the tousled texture of the hair, I would have liked to see a clean face. The covered eyes clear an obvious focus point but the lips immediately jump in hold the photograph.
The picture is perfectly positioned and the lighting is flawless.
