Description Sorry for re-posting but I'm changing up my gallery a bit with the introduction of my feather prints. Feathers should now be submitted in a more finished form like this. What do you think?

Prints will be available both through DA (if you prefer this way) and directly from me. Prints purchased from me will differ in price (cheaper) and will also be signed by me.

This look really does appeal. But the way before was fine too.
Are you only taking pictures of them now [high resolution for the quality]?

Thanks glad you like it No, not taking pictures of them anymore. I get much more quality and resolution by scanning them. In fact, the scans are so high res and so clear I can zoom in on the scans and see every little piece of dust and every little hair that is on the feather. How I love my scanner! *pets it*

That's great! My scanner sucks. You can always tell that it's a scan. So congrats! You have a brilliant scanner! [ What do you have for a scanner? ]

It's a large format professional scanner. I love it

Well I'll keep that in mind if I go look for one. How big of pieces can you scan with it? Just the normal?

I can scan up to 12 by 17, so pretty big. This scanner is huge. It takes up half of my drafting table... However it is the perfect size for most of my pieces, including the huge feather paintings I do

*nods* I bet. That is a nice big scanning space! I'm going to have to find me one of those! I bet it would take the corner of my drawing table. I got lucky and someone was selling one HUGE drawing/drafting table at a yardsale for fifty bucks! My mother saw it and bought it for me. It's a huge obstacle in my room though.

I got my drafting table for forty bucks but I'll bet that it's nowhere as big as yours. Mine's just the standard size. But it works. It's where I do all my feather painting.

*nods* I don't get to it much anymore, too stressed over work. Plus if I'm on the internet that means I'm at my brothers and if I'm at my brothers I can't really be using the table.
But it helps keep things off the ground from my rabbits teeth in the mean time.

Yeah. My parents don't have the internet, and everyone wants you to apply online ... so it pays to be here. Plus I have an awesome brother so it all works out.

I've been meaning to ask, how do you keep the feathers together? Does the paint do all the work or do you do something to the back of them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dittin03 In reply to Haeyume [2008-12-05 21:56:06 +0000 UTC]

It really depends on the feathers. Some are more sturdy than others. Generally the paint will hold them together but sometimes I can't count on that, so I'll use anything from a sealant spray to packaging tape to hold them together. When I'm working with more than one feather, I put small dabs of paint between each feather to hold them in place. I tend to come up with new things to try as I need them.
