"Words create lies. Pain can be trusted."

I initially sketched this piece for a horror movie zine (the Ju-On piece that I drew was the one chosen for the final zine), but I still wanted to do this one. So, when I needed ideas for Inktober 2022, it was easy to pull out this older sketch.
When concepting the piece, I initially wanted to avoid the iconic torture scene, just cause I wanted to cover a less-represented aspect of the movie. But, it's just so great, I kept coming back to it! XD
I wanted to bring in the religious, halo imagery, to reflect how she views pain, almost like a worship.
One of my favorite scenes is the one where the protagonist sees a vision of his late wife in a restaurant. I wanted to reference the striking red and blue lighting and scenery with this color scheme.
By bringing these two scenes together in this piece, I wanted to evoke a sense that the protagonist is suffering on the ground, looking up at Asami, fully realizing the depths of her strange devotion, and remembering the warning he glibly ignored from his wife.
