Description
All the members of the Science Council loved to get drunk and disorderly on space moonshine at their weekly meetings except for that boring gasbag Jor-El, who would just sulk and play his stupid little warning simulation over and over and over until everyone wished that his head would explode. My submission to the GIF Artists Collective for the Gif Challenge January – Explode

One interesting version of Krypton's destruction was in THE LAST DAYS OF KRYPTON by Kevin Anderson (2007).*. The expected core explosion was averted by a supergeyser** created by Zor-El (who later managed to save Argo City). It was the Science Council itself that destroyed Krypton !
Not content with Zod and his 2 partners jailed in the Phantom Zone, they, psychotically fearing that Jor-El would later release them, dropped the Phantom Zone portal into the crustal rupture that Brainiac created in abducting Kandor, That caused the Zone to devour Krypton's core and start Krypton's IMplosion and shattering.
I was going to give the above data on Anderson's highly readable novel and how it varies from the canon silver-age history of Krypton, in the wiki, BUT I feared retaliation from the stuffy stiffs who run the wiki. They groused that I didn't give sourse-data many times and threatened to revoke my right to comment if I left out sourse data again. (I don't know HOW !) and I tire of angering people.
* I was glad to buy it at the book dept of Pathmark. The books offered there since were just Children, Romance, Gothic & spy intrigue. Pathmark has since gone out of business. Used then for 2 years by Acme, it is now a vacant building.
** In the magma jet of this geyser, a curious GREEN mineral or element was detected. Zor-El was puzzled as to what this new element was. It was also in the wreckage of Krypton after its destruction. Tho not named in the book, it's obvious to Superman fans what it was.

Fascinating stuff, Emmet - I'll have to give Last Days of Krypton a read!
