Dear *errantmystic ,
I'm here on behalf of #transliterations and to be frank, also myself. You may not know that we're currently running a contest to translate music into literature (be it poem, flash fiction or other) via a 'musical map'--a visual representation of a chosen song or piece. We have a little under five days left in the running for this contest, and I personally would really love to see you enter.
All the necessary details, including the all-important prize list, can be found in this news article and this blog . If you have any questions or indeed, want to slap me about for messing up your page, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks for your time!
Sarah
PS: I'ma be responding that amazing critique of yours any day now, I promise.

You are beyond the jurisdiction of effusive adjectives or phrases or adoration.
I can NOT wait to read the rest of your works.

Perhaps it is not as substantive as your other contributions, but considering that you have commented on my stuff infinitely more times than I have on yours, I'm hardly in a position to discount your efforts.

I found one of your poems as a Daily Deviation. I have discovered that you are a wordmaster - I am not. But it makes me consider: what am I a master of? I shall aspire to perfection in some form.

So, I finally got a list up and running for the Link of the Night. If you're not on it (as in, don't get this message, and you want to), shoot me a note, or leave a message or just somehow let me know. Same goes for the instance that you want off the list - please let me know.
Happiness , by .
The Interview , by .
Rusting Bridges of Suburbia , by .
So, I did some peruzing, and earthed up these three pieces.
Happiness is beautiful in its own simplicity, and has a subtle kick to it that I find lacking in a lot of reading these days.
The Interview is an interesting little for-the-stage piece that I found myself cracking up over, all over the place. There's some great humor and dialogue going on here, as well as some great subtle toss-ins for the actors to experiment with. Something I would love to see performed.
While Rusting Bridges of Suburbia might be a little ho-hum subject-wise, the rhythm and control of meter that ~ honestbrutality has accomplished here is impeccable. It takes a lot of practice and a lot of control of vocabulary to get a good rhythm in a slam piece these days, and it's done beautifully here.
Get writing, fuckos. *jesusbite

I haven't been there since the beginning, I haven't any background or basis or right to say much of anything at all except that it happened to be me who was listening... I haven't even yet managed to read your work... though that one, at least, I plan on rectifying, when I'm awake enough to do it justice.
So I'm basing this on a few glimpses of who you are, a decent amount of intuition, and a lot of guessing.. any of which you can blame if I do as I expect I will, and completely miss my mark.
Have you ever read or seen the Shawshank Redemption? There's a character that fascinates me... by the name of Red. I'm going to explain this as if you've answered me.. yes, you've seen it.. for brevity's sake. If you haven't, I'll come back and explain it.
He refers to himself as a man who knows how to get things.. that strikes me as being you... that part of the metaphor I'm too tired to explain. But.. dA is like an institution. We're not writing for the sake of writing.. we're not taking these pictures because they're beautiful.. we want to get those comments. Sure, at first, we weren't in it for that... but that's how we're all ending up. To formulate that perfect poem, to take every criticism and suggestion into account, until they've become machines with which we please the greatest number of people possible. It's like a big game...
I've strayed from the movie metaphor, but eh.
What I'm trying to get at with my bumbling is that Red was an institutionalized man, and he made it out. It was a fucking happy ending. What makes you so sure yours isn't?
This was originally supposed to sound a lot wiser than it does. But I don't believe in that numbness a lot of people quote.. I think that's just another safety net. You tell people you can't feel, then you'll never be hurt. You tell people you don't believe in anything.. you're never dissapointed. You never show anyone any writing that wasn't written in blood.. it'll never be laughed at.. I don't know.. take whatever you want from this. Or don't take it.
