Great shading. I think I'd prefer the stars a little smaller to show off the gorgeous wolf better Great job on the fur.

yes, try not to use it too heavily, and if you need to lighten a spot, white charcoal is great for that. I used a lot of white charcoal in this, mainly for highlighting the fur. if you need to lighen a patch just a bit and make it softer around the edges, old watercolor brushes are good for that. don't use hard bristly brushes though unless you want randomly scattered scratches in the charcoal. and when You're done, you need to "fix" it, just by using a can of fixative, you can buy those for around seven to twenty dollars. don't be fooled though- it only adheres the surface particles, so try not to rub it too hard after it's dried, because you can still smudge it. for erasing, ticky tack is good, but try not to press to hard, and you need to knead it every once in a while so that the charcoal doesn't all collect on one side and spread all over your drawing. I like to use physical pictures in black and white instead of color for stock, but you can use a lot of other techniques. when looking for advice, it's best to go to professionals though- they can give you a really good headstart and are more hands-on than any tutorial book. my school has an art class, and my art teacher gives really good advice. remember, there's no "Right way" to do it- you can develop your own style, regardless of what others say, but stick to the basics- they will get you really far, no matter what kind of art you do.

Nice piece of work you have here. Very beautiful. I don't have any experience with charcoal but I'm impressed with the fine details you're able to do with it. Keep it up -: O)

Wow, beautiful. And impressive to get that much detail with charcoal. I always struggle getting the detail I want when I work with charcoal.

ooh I love yours! Yours has more definition in the fur, the picture I was working from was really dark so it was hard to give mine that much detail! Good job!!

well, I had a reference picture that showed a lot of definition in the fur, so I decided to work on that more than the outline of the figure.
