i have it practically red on one screen
im curious as to how you expect users to navigate this? if you're supposed to click on the items in the background you might do well to use a bit more screen real-estate so that handicapped users can click on the items in the background.

I though about a mix of a move on the side with an alpha increase, all of this on a mouseover.
But it's just a concept for now
