Backstory time!! Before Mal became a pilot, she really couldn't fly at all. But she idolised the Babylon Rogues and wanted them to teach her how to ride Extreme Gear-- and join the team. Of course, she was rejected-- quite harshly by Wave, who attributed her lack of flying capabilities to the fact that she's a duck. Jet was a teeny bit optimistic however, giving Mal a chance to face him again once she's older and more capable. And Storm took a neutral stance, not wanting to upset Wave or Jet.

With hard work, Mal did eventually learn how to ride Extreme Gear (and even fly planes). She has yet to face the Babylon Rogues again, but when she does, Mal is determined to prove her worth once and for all.
